My opinion: Why aren’t these things like $7k on the used market yet? They can’t be THAT good.

Do they have electric power steering?

They’re really not bad. R spec models got Brembos and an LSD, the turbo 4 responds well to mods, the 3.8 is decently punchy, the manual gearbox is pretty decent, and the interiors don’t feel ultra mega terrible.

I really want to drive one...because they’re a semi tempting next car. I’ve been eye balling this one for awhile now. It’s listed lower on cargurus is which part of the reason why I haven’t gone in to ask about it.

A guy brought one to our last track day. He was slotted two positions ahead of me. I caught him in the WRX despite it being my first time in the track.

I’ve always seen it as a sort of generic sports coupe. Nothing extraordinary, but no problems with it either. Less personality than it’s competitors overall.

I enjoy driving mine. Competent in all things master of none. Manual is bad, but compared to the other cars I drove, those are often overrated.

I had a 2010 3.8 GT Gen Coupe between GTOs. It was a fun car, but once they start to get higher up in mileage they begin to feel cheap. I loved the brown leather, mirabeau blue, and hids.
The community used to be really cool. I would avoid the R-Spec, due to lack of cruise control. Plus the gas pedal is floor mount, so remember that. The 2.slow is very slow until you start modding it. The air box has 2 filters, so remove the “permanent” one, and replace the replaceable one with a K&N. Also the 2013+ front end is fucking ugly/hideous. Look for a nice track edition 3.8. Mine was fun with the R-spec rear sway bar and custom exhuast. The track (2010-2012) used to get leather, LSD, HIDs, and Brembo brakes. Look for a nice used one of those. I am glad I got another GTO though, the Gen was a good car, but I wouldn’t want another one.

Well. The 3.8 would be good assuming you are only interested in an Asian RWD performance coupes and you don’t want a 370Z. For the price tag I dont know why you wouldnt buy a GT Mustang or Camaro SS instead. The 2.0T has turbo lag for days. But they’re both Hyundais.

That was kind of my thought as well. For that money, you’re into a really good used GT.

Interesting write up. I don’t think I would get one, but I remember being pretty excited when they announced it. It’s almost like the car didn’t know what it wanted to be.

Thank you! Side note, I was one of the very first people to have one in the US. Mine was the only V6 East of the Mississippi, and the only blue one too. I bought it in March of 2009. I didn’t know about it until I bought it. I heard rumours about it, but the drop top Tiburon was supposed to be in production. For the first year there was 3 Gen Coupes in my area.

probably because it’s the only choice in its class since it has no competition. The Z is a two-seater, the G35/7 is more expensive, and then you have the American boats.
The FRS/BRZ hasn’t been out long enough to flood the used market.
And too bad Hyundai only sold the 2.0T Track in 2010 (first model year). The R-spec doesn’t have a sunroof, but I like the Track performance shit and the economy of a 4-cylinder.

I really, really wanted the 2.0 turbo Track Gen Coupe. It was the cheapest RWD car with a proper Torsen until the twins came out.
It practically had no competition at its weight and power class. The FRS was a lot lighter and less powerful, and the muscle cars were a lot heavier and had ox cart suspension and no LSD. So pretty much anyone that wanted an affordable sports coupe with the power to win stoplight drags AND take on the twisties, the Gen Coupe was it.
