Hey der opponauts, do you stream music from music apps in the car or do you, like I do with my iPhone, painstakingly scour the net (SoundCloud in my case) for music since I’m so picky, and then put it on the phone, because again, like me, I have such a specific, niche taste in music?

The latter, primarily, though I do stream my local NPR station while I’m on the road.

It depends. Spotify for general listening. FLAC when I want to really enjoy it.

Can you really tell FLAC? Maybe my stereos all suck or my ears do but I cannot tell between high end MP3's & FLAC

Mostly downloaded onto a USB, since bluetooth is hit-n-miss on pioneer decks from experience, but sometimes i get fancy and stream from di.fm, or friend has his spotify hooked up for roadtrips.

I still buy CDs! I know I’m weird. But I like the quality, having a physical copy of the thing, and also my car only takes CD. That said I do download and stream too.
Full of the sound of the Gran Fury, signifying nothing.

I only get 1GB of data per month, so streaming is out when driving. I do stream at home so that I can find out what new music I’m Discovering, sometimes recording via a DVD recorder for review later. I bought a phone with 128GB so I can load it with music and not have to think about it again.
I still have my first generation iPod, with a whopping 5GB of storage. I put a bunch of my favorite songs on it in 2002 and really have not had the need to update the music on it in 14 years.

For me in-car is a mix. I keep my favorites downloaded on my phone, I listen to a lot of podcasts, and once in a while I’ll stream Pandora.
Fwiw I wish I could make Spotify work as well as Pandora as they seem to have a larger library to choose from.

All my music is sitting on a Plex server that is in my office at home as well as being on Google Play. In my current car (No Nav) I have a large collection of albums on an SD card if I don’t want to stream from my phone over Bluetooth.

It somewhat depends on the recording. You’re not going to tell on a green day song. The Beatles? Absolutely can.
My setup at home is decent though. AKG K702 headphones with xonar essence STX sound card (built in headphone amplifier).

I almost always use local storage, especially when I’m driving, because I don’t want to use all my monthly data. On top of this is the fact that much of the music I listen to isn’t available for streaming in the U.S.

I’m lucky where T-Mobile provides great service where I live. T-Mobile recently released a cool perk, where any major music apps are able to stream freely and don’t count against one’s data plan. I rarely take advantage of it, but if it wasn’t possible I’d never try using SoundCloud in my car.

You know what, I still have two great CDs in my car I listen to once in a while. On a separate note, yesterday, I found a song on my iPhone that skips. I was like.... Whoa.

Haha yeah! On my phone, my copy of The Strugle Within from Metallica skips a bit also. But I won’t re-upload the disc because it’s a really small skip and it reminds me that it comes from my individual copy of that CD, and I like that.
