Friend of the family brought over a jackfruit. I’ve never seen one of these before, what’s the best way to eat one of these things? A tomato for scale.

What I know about Jack fruit: eat it all at once. It’s very tasty, but don’t store it cut. It reeks and stinks up all the things

Right up there with durian. Usually they are sold around each other in Asian supermarkets.

I’ve had it before, it’s delicious. I had it in the Philippines, they cut it off the tree right in front of me and cut it open right there on the spot. I don’t remember how they cut it open or if there is a specific way to do it.

It looks like something I would keep as a pet.

That’s the thing that explodes when it gets too ripe on the tree, right? I wanna see it happen someday.

It is very sticky inside, you have to take the seeds/pits out which you could roast. Just cut it up like any other fruit after that. There is some whiter stringy stuff that I don’t think you should eat, but can if you want.

Barbeque it. It shreds up and has a similar consistency to pulled pork. Eat it in a sandwich.

I’ve had it cut up and put into drinks. I think it’s a relative of durian so don’t get it on your skin unless you want to stink.

I just happen to be vacationing in the part of the country that grows this. This is what it looks like on a tree from my cottage’s balcony :)
Fry it in thin strips like potato chips - it’s delicious. (Don’t know if you need to dry it or anything before hand)

It’s got a meaty texture that pairs well with savory sauces (barbeque, etc.). You can pay way too much for barbecue jackfruit in a bag at a grocery store today, next to the tofu.

Had them when I was stationed in the Philippines, I really like them, In fact thanks for reminding me, I’m going to go look for some around here.
I don’t ever remember them smelling bad, but they can have a strong sweet smell when ripe as far as I remember. But sometimes smells can be subjective, they could smell bad for some people maybe.
