I know it’s a convertible, but I feel like that would be a great way to enjoy that engine more. Just hear all the sounds it makes, plus I’ve been driving around a lot recently with my windows recently and I could enjoy the weather more with no roof, plus they’re pretty cheap now:

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Me wanting a convertible, we can just file it to “things I said I’d never do, but do anyways” like buying a car sight unseen off the internet, or buying a red car, or going after one of my sister’s friends. I said I’d never do these things, but I have.

I like my E90 too much, but I would love an E93 as a second car.

I do, but I also want a C63 AMG and that never happened.

I’m sure you would just hear more wind noise. Time for exhaust?

Glad to know I am not the only one. I think they look great in convertible form. I wouldn’t mind having one in blue.

I owned a 350Z convertible before I got my current car. Not gonna lie, it was a lot of fun. It was just too small and the top needed replacing though. The M3 at least has more room and rear seats so the kids could ride in it.

Understood

So true — a not-insignificant part of my own ‘vert bliss has been knowing it’s home in the garage, safe and dry, whenever weather happens all over everything.

Less of an issue with the newer tin-tops, maybe, but surely they leak *somewhere.* If not, then it’s just too soon

Besides, enthusiasts always need more cars (than they have)

If you are going to get a problematic convertible for the noise, why not go V10 screaming with a M6?

I’ll be honest, I wouldn’t want only an M3 vert, but if I could have one in addition to my current M3, I’d be all over it.

The M3 has been pretty reliable for over 20k miles. Apart from the throttle position actuators. I would love a V10 M6, it was the first M car I ever drove.

I had a 128i coupe as my other car, I sold it cause I lost my job. As I get closer to getting a job I start looking at cars and it’s like damn I could have another M3 for 25k? That’s super tempting. I’m going to get a garage again to park my E90 in once I find a job.

I don’t blame you for that.

Also, thanks for making me go look. Found this one in Interlagos Blue for just under $22k with 63k miles. Maybe the link won’t get kinja’d or whatever it does to make it think it isn’t listed anymore.

Damn that is nice and your link needed to be modified to work:

Or if that doesn’t work:

Isn’t it though? I haven’t looked in a while. Didn’t realize how much prices had gone down since last year when I bought my car.

Thanks for the fix. It seems to do that with Autotrader and cars.com links as of late.

I look at M3 prices occasonally, it seems 2008s are pretty cheap, but a 2011 M3 sedan with a 6MT that you’d want to buy is still above 40k, which makes me feel good about my cars.

Also, the prices on some of the M3s aw so tempting that I might look at one when it comes time for a second car.

Yeah most I saw were 08-09. There was one ‘11 model for under $28k but it was a private seller and he put in the listing that the previous owner lemon lawed it.

As the owner of an e90, I could be on board with this.

It probably would’ve been better to say, “there are some advantages to being able to enjoy a ‘vert as a second car.”

Best wishes for real with the job search...BTDT and personally I had no fun.. How are things going with yours?

Honestly it’s been a miserable 8 months. Everyone I talk to about it who has had a similar experience as me. I’m trying to make an industry change right now and that hasn’t been easy. I was in oil, working as a frac field engineer, and I’m trying to pretty much get into any other industry. I’ve got a chemical engineering degree, so I’ve got that going for me. I think I’ve focused a little too much on my field experience and not my transferable skills. I’ve got an interview tomorrow for a job as a process engineer, and I’ve already passed two phone interviews, so hopefully I’ve finally found something, getting a job now would make the holidays a lot more enjoyable.

I was fortunate that I was prepared as much as I could be for this; I could see the writing on the wall that I wasn’t going to last too much longer in that job. I was miserable and was either gonna quit or get laid off. It was almost a relief to get laid off, but I didn’t think job searching would be this bad. I got my M3 paid off in 2015 and I have a good amount of savings, I didn’t have any debts besides my 128i, which I sold. My parents have also been accommodating, although I hate living back at home. I’m hoping if I have to go through this again, it’s on my own free will not because I’m forced to.

The sedan is just perfectly proportioned, the sensation of driving with the roof down will always be more important to me than the best rigidity to do la times as I have never tracked my car. The coupe is the obvious choice as well IMO.

I agree, the sedan is proportioned just so. They’re all great, it’s just what you prefer.

It’s not a track car, it’s a luxury coupe. It’s already severely compromised in terms of handling, so don’t let anyone tell you the convertible version is a hairdresser’s car. The amount of happy you’ll have is well worth the small handling trade-off.
