I am now torn between the MT-10 and the new MT-09.

MT-10:

Kinja'd!!!

Pros:
-160HP
-that cross-plane engine note
-visually looks far meaner and more butch then the 09
-r1 suspension and brakes (albeit slightly modified)
-Cruise control!
-Physically a larger, more comfortable bike.

Cons
-its 15K up here
-there goes my rear tire budget
-and fuel...its only good up to 30mpg? dam

Kinja'd!!!

Pros:
-3 cylinder motor. by god are they smooth and sound oh-so nice
- 42mpg!
-probably go through less rear tires.
-way cheaper then the mt-10

Cons:
-its got almost 50hp LESS then the mt-10...
-everyone and their dog has one right now.
-Dunno what insurance will be, as everyone who bought it bought it to do dank whoolies. Helloooo high insurance rates.
-suspension, while better than before, still isn’t great

I didn’t have the 09 on my radar before because frankly, the first generation SUCKED. Shitty suspension, shitty fuelling, no ABS, no electronics of any kind. All it had going for it was that motor and it was cheap.

For 2017 though, they have upped the ante,. the 09 gets better suspension, TCS, ABS, the motor gets retuned for better response and the generally bring up in spec.

What i still don’t like is that HP rating. If I’m going to dump a shit load of money on a new bike, I want it to have at LEAST 50 more HP then the SV. I want it to scare me. (yes yes yes, I know, I’m king squid, blah blah blah, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , blah blah blah. I get it. I want power. The liter bikes I rode over the summer have corrupted me.)

There IS a turbo kit for the first gens, but I don’t like it because A: bike and turbos generally don’t go well together, at least if you want to do corner carving) and B: I need this bike to last 100K km. Which I don’t see a boosted bike engine doing.

GAH. Dam it yamaha.

It’s amazing how many cool bikes are out there these days. Spoiled for choice.

FZ/MT are the same. Some country have different names for it.

Duke: i dont like singles. And its the same HP as my bike is right now, no reason to upgrade

CBR: I cant do ANY supersports. Insurance would flat out rape me.

I dont trust their electrical systems. Everyone that I know with a triumph has had to do the stator or rectifier before 50K km. No thanks.

I think the mt 10 fits you better.

The 690 is a Twin though I thought.

nope, single. the new duke 800 concept was a twin. current 690 is a single.

Still doesnt address the issue of it having the same amount of HP I have now.

That front end looks like a cross between Darthvader’s Helmet and a Decepticon face.. I like it..

I test rode an fz-10, mt10 equivalent, this weekend. Scared me to be honest with the amount of power it had. But holy shit it sounded good! Also, I did ride a WR250R for a year, so maybe I’m not used to crazy powerful bikes yet.

What’s your budget?

Scrambler by Ducati?

rNineT?

Aprillia?

Budget is ~16K CAD

fuck ducati. pompus, expensive, maintenance heavy bikes that are meh at best.

BMW: if i were to buy a BMW, id be looking at a S1000R. retro doesnt do it for me, I want power, performance and modernity.

i would LOVE an aprilia tuono, but they were REALLY expensive and even more to insure then the yamaha

yea, a WR250 is still beginner bike power levels lol. I’ve been on an SV for....4 years now? I can HAUL with that thing. I want something that will scare me. (Id look at the full crop of R1, S1000RR, etc etc, but insurance rates would murder me) hence, Hyper nakeds.

I’m not generally a fan of the whole “transformer” look on bikes but damn, I do think the MT-10 looks awesome. I’d go for that one. If you buy the less powerful bike, you’ll constantly be thinking “what if”
