It’s a metal film, so you can’t really heat it up too much. Soapy water in a spray bottle helps when laying up the tint, otherwise go slow and use a good squeegee.

I’ve given up and just pay others who have figured it out. You can get a decent tint job on just about anything smaller than a suburban for $100 + the price of film. I like to do my own work on my cars, but tint is such a pain and so inexpensive to get done that I just paid someone to do my last two cars.

Make sure not to forget the part of the window that is hidden when the window is rolled up. The first time I tinted my windows, I forgot that and had a strip of untinted window anytime I rolled them down.

I’ve done it a couple of times. First rule is to make sure the windows are super clean, inside and out. If you don’t do both sides, you might think a piece of dirt is on the outside when it’s really in the inside.

Second rule is to not let the film touch anything but the soapy glass. It’s extremely easy to get junk on the film trying to maneuver it into place. Get help if you need it.

Third rule - Don’t get the cheap film. It won’t last.

Fourth rule - make sure the windows are clean.

The tips have been given and those are the important things to do. It took me four vehicles before I got it right, but like others have said, way easier to have someone else do it. Quicker too. Once you buy the good tint, youve spent enough to justify having a pro do it. Check with your local luxury car dealerships for where they go, you’ll find a good installer.

Yeah I think I have to ask a buddy to help. Pulling the film lining off the film without it coming off the glass is a 4 hand job

Watch a couple of videos on the process. The pros use a big mirror or piece of glass to stick the film to while trimming it to fit and removing the backing. They also don’t remove all of the backing at once. They leave the bottom four inches or so in place so that the film doesn’t pick up dirt from the door card.
