Kinja'd!!!

Met up with 4muddyfeet and helped him with his series 3 project. Front end trim and lights off, carb off ready for a clean and rebuild and valve cover off. Valve cover was coated in thick mayo so looks like head gasket is next on the list to change....

Are you pretty sure it’s the head gasket?

iirc simple condensation can lead to the mayonnaise issue, not necessarily water from the cooling system...

You probably already know — but *just in case* — searching “3 Series” and “mayonnaise” gets lots of hits about it

Good on yer for helping out :)

Best wishes

Duh

Apologies

“Series 3" not “3 Series”...my dumb mistake. Any possibility though that condensation instead of cooling system could do it here as well?

It was a very thick layer across the entire cover and was clogging the breather, so were somewhat sure. It has also been losing coolant, but the heater matrix leaks so its still inconclusive I guess.
