Teodorin Obiang, Dictator’s son and corrupt Equatorial Guinea official, had Dutch authorities take the YACHT this time. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy! Twice they’ve grabbed a handful of hyper-exotics from him. Most recently in November:

So now it’s a beautiful Dutch-built yacht instead of limited edition exotics. Teodorin Obiang has likely had better days, but I really hope the hits keep coming for him.

Chime in if you love Schedenfreude for dictators!

Our next president would never allow this. He doesn’t like it when people are forced to give up their yacht.

Was he forced to give that one up? He didn’t sell it of his own free will? (Seriously asking. Not arguing politics).

He sold it, but he had to sell it because he was broke. I don’t recall if it was in one of his bankruptcies, or if he was selling to avoid a bankruptcy. Regardless the financial realities would not let him keep it.

If I recall correctly, when he was facing bankruptcy in the early 90's, he had to sell the Princess (or have it repossessed, which was likely the case). He only had it for a few years, and allegedly only sailed on it once. He was afraid it would sink, so he never slept on it.

At the time, he also owed nearly twice as much on it as he paid. Gold railings and diamond portholes are expensive upgrades I guess.

Edit: Here ya go. If the links are accurate, he bought it for $29 million, owed over $40 mil on the loan, and liquidated it for $20 million.

Too bad. I’m sure it was a portrait of understated elegance, and in no way 500 tons of gold-plated tackiness.

I mentioned the gold in my other comment before I saw yours. The guy has a particular style!

Well it was originally built for a Saudi arms dealer, which... no, doesn’t make it any less likely to be a tacky mess.

I knew it was built for Adnan, and sold to Al Waleed. I had no idea of the figures in between. Always fascinating to get a glimpse into this world.

Fun fact: That yacht was built by the same shipyard that built Steve Jobs’ yacht.
