Can’t be a 1972, Fiat stopped making the 600 in 1969.

That sounds like a pretty big red flag

Hmmm....that’s true! I may be a FIAT fan, but I love the air cooled cars more, so my 600 knowledge isn’t completely up to snuff (I thought the 600 lasted until the early 1970s in my head, so I never clued in on the date).

Good catch! That is a bit of a worrier then.....still though, if it checked out and wasn’t in bad shape, $8000 isn’t bad!

Might not have sold until ‘72. It wasn’t uncommon for some of these small cars to sit on the lot for a couple of years. There are a lot of Subaru 360s registered as ‘71 or ‘72 cars, though they came off the boat in ‘69.

They made them in Argentina until 1982. That’s probably what we’re looking at.

“We are discontinuing this car next year, ceasing production” - Auto maker “Please sent us the dies, & production equipment” - South American country.

Assuming the seller didn’t just register it as a Fiat 600 for simplicity’s sake, I’m 99% sure it’s from Argentina – they made Fiat 600s from 1960 to 1982.

Yugoslavia made Fiat 600s under the Zastava 750 moniker. For a few years, some were made in Colombia as well: these were CKD kits shipped in from Zastava, badged Fiat 750Z.

Whatever the case, someone imported this car into Ontario at some point, and managed to find an appropriate YOM plate to go with it! The price isn’t bad, assuming it’s as good as the seller says it is. A perfect one (no matter where it was made) would run you at least 12k CAD.

Not really. Argentina started producing them in 1960 (Italian production started in 1955), they just didn’t stop making them... Same thing with Yugoslavia, except they made them from 1955 to 1985.

I was guessing it could’ve been a later Zastava with FIAT badges? Either way, the want is strong!

Do you still have yours Spas? :)

Yep, still have it! It’s in for repairs (a ‘good and cheap, but not fast’ sort of deal) to make it reliable before it comes back home. Can’t wait to actually start driving it remotely regularly...

Got a new water pump, spark plugs, fuel pump, fuel filter, and battery in there right now. Waiting on a carb rebuild and fuel system cleaning to find out if it’ll need more work.
