The music. The BBC having a licensing agreement with all the major record labels to just use things willy-nilly means it’s harder to have things like Hammond driving like a madman in a C7 Corvette while the only memorable piece of music in all the Marvel movies plays.
The bit of music in question, “Taking a Stand” (the soundtrack to Cap taking out the Quinjet in his “this is the closest we can do to a dragon-slaying scene until Iron Fist hits Netflix spoiler alert” scene and also the end credits and why isn’t this the Captain America theme?) from Captain America: The Winter Soldier. OK, maybe the Avengers theme is kinda memorable, but it’s no Taking a Stand.

They have this ages-old arrangement with the labels that says they can use whatever songs in their catalog they want for anything. It’s why TG’s music was always so great. Amazon still has to pay per song. The Beeb has a massive, incredible library to use as they wish.
Imagine the Toyota 86 review without that Bloc Party song during the drifting. That’s right, you can’t.

Yes but as I said how is it making it harder for Amazon? Sounds like they’re just being cheap or maybe Clarkson blew all of their massive budget on explosives.

Before the crazy-ass opening to The Grand Tour, the most expensive scene in TV history was this one from Mad Men:
That two minutes of footage cost over 2 million dollars. And it was entirely because it was set to “Tomorrow Never Knows” by The Beatles. Licensing music is outrageously expensive.

I’m going to call poor choice of wording on that as well. It’s not so much it makes it harder for Amazon as it does make it easier for the Beeb, which while effectively the same thing in this case for the most part isn’t commutative.

Ha! I worked on an MTV show and had to get the rights to music. MTV has pissed off every band known to man. It was next to impossible to get the rights to music without huge fees.
Nobody gives stuff away. And if they do, they’re fools.
