It’s about that family member’s Dodge Ram I posted awhile ago. I’d go outside and take pictures but it’s raining and dark.

take your finger, and mash on the rust. really push on it.....if your finger pushes all the way through, well its rusted through. if it doesnt, surface rust. if you get brave enough, use an icepick or screwdriver instead of just your finger.......

Unfortunately it is the best way. I squeezed and poked the fuck out of the last car I bought in all the familiar areas that are prone to rust. I did not ask for permission... Probably because I was fairly certain I was going to buy it anyway.

It appears to be surface rust, I’m allowed to mess with it a bit, so long as I don’t paint or something

lol, sellers love it when you pull out the flatblade and start poking.. another one that saved me from a basket case vert Ghia was to open both doors and wiggle them..

I can’t lie, I like the way that looks. The patina really gives a good work truck look to it. Clear coat and fix up the mechanicals and call it a day.

That patina is pretty cool. The frame looks clean. You should be able to run that thing to 200k easy. Trans fluid change would be in order though. I’ve got 177k on my 99 Dakota RT and it’s still running strong. Anything that runs is worth a grand, and maybe a bit more because it’s a truck.
