So I was turning gear in to get out of the Army and was told I was missing a three mag pouch. Now I’m 99% sure I was only issued one, but maybe it’s a mistake or I really was issued two and lost one.
So I go to clothing and sales to go buy one and guess what! Did they have single mag pouches? No. Grenade pouches? No. E-tool pouches? No.
They only had three mag pouches. Coincidence? I think not!

Speaking of losing pouches, I don’t know if the sewer snake / auger had the tip pouch on it or not. When I returned it they asked me, but when I had gotten to the house eariler it wasn’t on or I lost it on the way by strapping it onto the hitch haul on the back of my equinox.
Damn it. I don’t know how much that’ll cost me. Screw rental houses and screw renting to inlaws. I hate that part of my life.
/rant over. I am still screwed either way.

your clothing record would show how many you were issued.

I had the opposite when getting out the Marine Corps. I had asked for a list of all my issued gear a few months beforehand. They gave me a printout that only had about 2/3 of gear I had been issued over the years. I aksed if that was really all I had to turn in, and they resonded in the afirmative. About a month later I went back and asked for my gear list again, and they gave me the same list. When the time came, I turned in what they said I owed. I think there was a canteen pouch I had to procure, but otherwise I got to keep some really good rain gear, most of the cold weather gear, dozens of magazines and some flame retardant thermals, among other stuff.
For an organization that spends inordinate amounts of time counting things, I was expecting the Marine Corps to be better at it.

I’d say a mag pouch is a slim shortage. Surplus stores and eBay were required on the quest of my 2nd dd214.

Were the FR thermals made by Massif? I’ve got a Massif FR jacket that I’ve had for I think a decade now and it’s as good as the day I bought it. The label is faded but everything else is 100%. I sent it back to them a few years back for new velcro on the sleeves and they did it for free.

I’ll have to dig them out and check. The goretex rain gear is fantatic, and still as good as the day they issued it to me out of the package in 2007.

That’s awesome. The only thing I had extra was a sleeping bag which I sold to a surplus store, the guy only gave me $10 for it lol.

True, $22 is a small price to pay for getting through CIF without problems.

I had an extra bivvy cover, but I had to turn in the two bags.

Luckily my last unit didn’t issue any gear. I only had the stuff that was mine; BDU’s, PT gear, Class A’s. I had a bunch when I was in Korea, but I only had to hold onto it for a year. If we didn’t have it they setup a pay deduction the same price you paid at whatever the store was called that was near the PX. We were the first group to be issued the 3 piece goretex sleeping bag, that thing still keeps me warm whenever I go camping. I still snowboard in my goretex jacket and pants, too.

I know, there’s so much gear I wish I could’ve kept. They took everything that doesn’t directly contact your skin :(
Thanks Obama /s

I have so much shit left over. I really have no idea what to do with it until the zombie apocalypse hits.

My problem is that anything I wanted to keep got FUBARD by other people after I was out. To be honest some of it won’t fit my fat ass as I was a scrawny puke back then.
I still have snow shoes, a thermos, and some snow blindness/racquetball glasses around.
