Oh, did I say hyenas? Because no, they only attack things when they have good reason to, like to sate hunger or fend off a potential threat. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and beat the shit out of each other over discounted things they didn’t want all year until one special holiday created by stores to offload all the shit they didn’t sell before the fiscal year ends.

Scientists say that faster than light travel is super-impossible, wormholes are at best theoretical, and the amount of energy we’d need to send even a probe to other stars exceeds our technological capability. These realities used to make me sad, but considering everything it’s probably for the best.

People losing their shit over shoes is nothing new, but I still don’t get it. This is like the American version of tulip mania.

This was the first year I ever went black friday shopping, and by “shopping” I mean I sat in the car with the bambino (only one poo explosion diaper- managed to get none on the leather!) while the Mrs. visited one solitary store. I also walked into Best Buy to pick up an online order. 10/10 the poo explosion was better than the store.

I remember 10 years ago when that outlet mall wall was profitable, but often deader than disco. It was a great alternative to the shitshow of Alderwood Mall. Now it’s a zoo every day of the year.

People love to forget that we aren’t really that evolved yet.

Black Friday is still new here in the U.K. but we’ve learned to spread it over a few days (up to 12 online) calling it Black Friday Week, Black Friday Deals, etc... It’s best for store to get the products out gradually without any mad rush, allow shoppers to find the deal they want without the chaos.

This Black Friday saw almost no one waiting outside stores to open, no mad rush, busy later on as people finished work and then went to ty and find a deal in store.

It had got to a point a year or two ago police were having to stand nearby, one or two stores were closed at the police request to stop the madness and people just thought, ‘this is silly, I’m not going to get hurt for a TV, when I can sit on my computer at home and find the one I want with a nice coffee in my hand’.

I’d blame the casino which has never lost popularity, and all of the chain restaurants and the huge WalMart in the area. And of course, Canadians, who will still make an entire day trip to buy clothes when the Loonie isn’t worth three quarters. Although I hear it’s still a better deal than at home. Visit Costco in Bellingham or Burlington for similar fun.

And this is why I will be spending as little time as possible around malls or large stores for the entire period from last Friday through Christmas.

Speaking of out of country visitors, ever been to the Woodburn outlets?

I know where Woodburn is, but never stopped there. I have to imagine it is filled with Canuckians on a long trip, or WA residents desperately trying to avoid sales tax.

While you do see the odd WA plate in the parking lot, it’s actually usually packed with people vacationing from Asia. that in itself isnt a problem, but their culture doesn’t seem to mesh well with ours, and they tend come off as extremely rude (bumping into you without saying anything, staring, etc.) As I said, I think it’s a culture thing.

I have a friend from HK, I am used to rants about tourists from mainland China :) (and those tourists are complained about around the world - indeed, cultural issues worn on the sleeve). If they stare, just stare back - surprises them. Hopefully the vacationers aren’t also scouting property in Portland for “investment” like in Seattle and Van.
