All I know about them is from the factory you can’t turn off the traction control

I wonder why that is. If you got an E60 M5 or an E63/E64 M6 with a 6MT, you couldn’t disable traction control because apparently it would grenade the gear box.

Good friend of mine has one, he loves it. Albeit expensive, if you ignore the price it is about as aggressive as you can get in a can that you need to live with every day. Blast to drive, pain on the track for the reasons everyone else has said, but it is for sure a super good road car

Quite enjoying mine now that I got the stage 1 tune from APR... you can get these from CarMax for less than $30k easily

Wait, why? You can turn it off in the Mk 7.

We have two, I don’t know how it happened. I have a mk7 and the s/o has a mk6. The mk6 is more comfortable, has more legroom in the rear, and a better turning radius. The mk7 is faster, more balanced awd power distribution, and better infotainment system. If you have specific questions let me know. She has 30k with no issues, I have 20k with no issues.

You could with some VAG-COM coding. It was very easy to do. It enables the two-stage ESC defeat that was present in the euro models.

I put 75k miles on a 2012 Golf R over three years. Great car. I loved it. I honestly regret selling it. It was dumb.
Ignore the people who didn’t actually own the car and talk about non-defeatable traction control. The VAGCOM coding to enable two-stage ESC defeat is well documented and is easy to do. The car is a beast, and with mods is flat out incredible.
It was also super reliable, never threw any codes or anything like that.
Zero issues with the car, I just made a dumb mistake and decided to go with a TDI wagon. Did I mention it was dumb?

sold mine at 75k with no issues, except a slipping clutch due to a very aggressive driver ;)

Ahh but you can’t, it’s a ruse. It’s ESC off only, not TCS, and that’s a crucial difference. VAG-COM confirms what you can tell while driving, its ABS control deactivation only. The electronic throttle closure is unaffected and it is a MAJOR kill joy. Any decent slip and if absolutely bogs and kills power. The brakes don’t slam on on top of the throttle shutting, but in a relatively small displacement engine that relies on boost snapping the throttle shut feels like hitting the brakes.
