Are they just about equal, do they cancel out, or is one faster than the other?

Super Formula is the fastest non-F1 open-wheeler series. I think they’re even faster than LMP1, but don’t quote me one that.

1:40.788 at Fuji for Stoffel Vandoorne in a Super Formula this year, versus 1:23.570 for Audi #8, although the Super Formula qualifying was apparently “semi-wet”.
In fact, that time would’ve put the Super Formula cars at the back of the GTE-Am grid.
2015 was 1:38.354 for Andre Lotterer, 1:22.763 for Porsche #17. That 2015 time would’ve almost gotten GTE-Pro pole that year.

Fair point. I don’t know enough about the conditions of the SF qualifying to dispute that, and given their lack of power it absolutely makes sense.

2014 was the last year with a dry Super Formula quali at Fuji and pole was a 1:22.572 which is right there with the prototypes.
Plus I believe Fuji would heavily favor the LMP cars due to that crazy long front straight.

Good catch, wasn’t aware of the conditions in 2015.

I only know because for some reason I watch Super Formula at midnight when I’m bored
