The first episode we can probably all agree was skiddish and full of bad stretched out jokes. Pretty sure most of us figured this was just the way the show was going to get started and would smooth out as we go.

I won’t ruin it for anyone that hasn’t watched it yet but WTF? The episode goes from a review of the Vulcan which is decent to a very dragged out bad action movie. Amazon definitely dropped a pretty penny on all of the explosives and helicopters etc. It was boring and pointless though!

Even when Jeremy starts “dreaming” of how his next actions are going to play out there is no indication of this. The show all of a sudden jumps back into real time and you are left to assume it was him dreaming?

Anyways lots of forced humor once again in this episode and leaves you wondering what the plot or purpose is?

I haven’t given up hope yet but hopefully they get back to doing cool shit with cars (old or new) which is what I think we are all expecting from this series.

What are your thoughts?

Yeah; thought the Vulcan segment was pretty good, but the military bit was so forced and scripted.. I’m pretty sure this season will be like a TG “lite”, since Amazon wants to gain a new viewership, as well as keep the old. They probably have these episodes to get those unfamiliar with the hosts some introduction on how the hosts act/what the show’s about.

My thought is you have no concept of funny, and you probably didn’t even know the initials on the picnic hampers.

You are probably an American.

I thought there was something wrong with the player.

It was a shit episode. Like properly shit. I’m not liking The Grand Tour so far. I was heavily fatigued with Top Gear and I’m really gutted they just continued to make the same thing.

As a British person, I can tell you it was Fortnum and Mason. I can also tell you that it was unfunny.

I’m willing to hand-wave the action movie bits if I never have to see Mike Skinner do the “HURR DURR I’MMA ‘MURICAN!” bits ever again.

What was a groan-worthy gag in the first episode has quickly grown tired.

I am completely off Clarkson and his sidekicks. It’s a personality cult deal and not a show any more. And Clarkson is a sexist homophobic pig. The Top Gear remake wasn’t much either, with that Matt Whatever-His-Name-Is guy.

I’m into Roadkill now, Roadkill Garage, Engine Masters, and so on. I learn stuff from them and the old-timer (maybe my age) Steve Dulcich is the genuine article.

The thing that’s tiring is Jeremy Clarkson.

Lucky is pretty great too. He was a needed addition to Hot Rod Garage. And I’m glad Tony came into his own as well,he was so bad at first you could tell he was nervous. tony and Lucky are what make the show not just a copy of Horse Power TV or the other Spike TV Saturday morning stuff.

Yes; I absolutely agree. Genuine article. I like that other guy, the unshaven youngster, the least of the pack.

I’m committing to the first season before I write it off. Hopefully it will get more organic like the older TGs. Seems way too forced and scripted thus far. Time will tell.

It feels much more scripted for some reason than top gear ever did.

Why would they stop, though? They created a multi-billion dollar empire with that formula.

Because they claimed to be starved of creative freedom which is clearly bollocks going by the first two episodes and they have a virtually unlimited budget to go along with their massive salaries. Money isn’t an issue and as usual Clarkson is full of horseshit.

I enjoyed the bit with the Vulcan, but the whole military thing wasn’t even car related until they got to the end and drove an Audi.

This episode was disappointing, but then again, there were episodes of TG that missed the mark as well. We’ll see how consistently these disappointments arise through the first season.

Also: they need to kill off the bit where they kill off celebrities.

Also #2: I now appreciate the fact that the Stig doesn’t talk at all.

I agree roadkill is awesome! They are limiting a lot of their content to Motor Trend On Demand now though. Not saying it isn’t worth it but just noticed the change!

Yeah even in the episode they have a scripted argument about how “this is a car show we need to show cars”

Guess we’ll wait for Episode 3!

I subscribe to MTOD, just for the Roadkill offerings. And Engine Masters. None of the other shows come close, except for Hot Rod Garage.
