We did a ping pong ball launching project when I was in school. It was for a summer class, so my partner and I spent the day drinking and building it. We used the sidewalk as a grinder, since the shop was closed. Good times

We did the ping-pong ball challenge in high school. It had to be powered by a mousetrap. They divided our score by the weight of our launcher, so a lighter launcher could win even with a lower score. The target was supposed to be a string grid, but they changed it to a pvc grid. Where the former was forgiving, the latter was not. If the shot was slightly off-center, the ball would bounce out. The scores were extremely low that year. They went back to string the next year.

That’s unfortunate. Ours was actually one of the few projects I did well on lol
