Robert Deiss, the Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Passenger Cars, told reporters that VW has no plans to offer any diesel vehicles in the US in the future. While many had expected this from the start of the emissions scandal, it is a departure from what Diess had said to the press as recently as two months ago.

Handelsblatt in Germany had the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Reuters has !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! with a VW spokesperson.

At the Paris auto show in September, Deiss had told Reuters’ reporters that VW was not ready to abandon diesel technology and could still offer a diesel model in the US market. This new announcement now indicates that that is no longer the case. No Alltrack manual-AWD-turbo-diesel wagon for you!

Audi of America President Scott Keogh said that one Audi model, the Q7, could possibly be sold as a diesel in the US in the future but couldn’t provide any further details. If that does indeed happen, we can only hope it includes the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

Meanwhile, my dream of the A8L 4.2 TDI being sold in the States drifts further and further away...

(First article on Oppo btw. Sorry it had to be such a melancholy topic but I didn’t see this anywhere on Jalopnik or here yet.)

I thought I wanted an A8 L. Not after this diesel debacle and the few previous VW AG products I’ve owned.

Now I’d rather have a Jaaaag XJL (petrol) or a Benz S350 CDI.
