Took the boy to an off-road park today (Durhamtown). 2,000+ acres of trails, and obstacles, 6 MX tracks, mud pits, hill climbs, drag race track, etc. We rented an Artic Cat SxS (all the RZR’s were reserved). My god are these things capable! A good time was had.

I want one. Wish they weren’t so damn expensive.

Side by sides are more expensive than capable used Jeeps, and far less practical. You wouldn’t take one on a 6500 mile road trip, but I did in my 300,000 mile Jeep. A side by side can’t move all my stuff between provinces, but my Jeep has. My Jeep is also not all that much less capable off-road than a side by side, only surpassed in shortness of wheelbase and added lightness... But I haven’t got stuck or had problems running quad trails in the MJ either, so...
What I’m saying is I’ll stick with my Jeep(s).

I know right! You could buy 2 old jeeps for the price of 1. To make it worse there’s only a $2000 difference between one with 100 hours, and one with 2000 hrs.

Too bad they can’t just be road legal. I know they are in done states but only as slow moving vehicles as in you have to stay under 35-mph.

Yep. And from the bit of research I’ve done, parts are actually really expensive.
How much did it cost to rent for the day? I think renting one every now and again is the way to go.

$300 including helmets, park pass, and fuel. Definitely the way to go. I could rent one 30 times at current prices, and I’m sure my son will be bored of it way before that ever happens. Plus you wouldn’t have it taking up valuable garage space, not to mention having to also buy a trailer.
But on the otherhand you could buy one, and sell it for roughly the same price in a couple years (if you take care of it).

I guess it depends on how often you’d go. I don’t live anywhere near where you can go off-road, so I would only really be able to use one a few times a year tops. To not have to buy it, buy the trailer, store them both, and fix it when it breaks ... I think that’s $300 well spent.

Yeah, this place is only 2 hours away, but I still can’t see myself having the time to go but a 4 or 5 times a year.
