Oppo, I’m wondering what your average speed is. In many cars the car actually records this. So I’m asking you: post your average speed according to your trip computer.

Information to post:

Average speed

Distance over which this speed is recorded

Your location (approximate)

What you use your car for

Make/model/year.

I wonder who scores the highest and who scores the lowest. You can post whatever, but to be honest I’d consider anything below 1k miles sample distance as unreliable.

I’ll post my own later.

I didn’t drive the E46 (‘03 325it) today, but I cycled past that reading yesterday and I think it’s around 25mph, maybe 25.4 I think. Distance is over at least 5000 miles since I cleared the second trip odometer. I drive almost exclusively my 25ish mile round trip commute in central CA, which is a mix of in town & B-road, maybe 65mph max speed briefly but mostly 25-45mph or so.

If my car had one, the data would probably be somewhat incriminating.

My average speed? Only car I drive that can give me that is the Camry Hybrid at work. On the trips I make to one of our datacenters, I average about 35mph, and that’s going through a residential area to the highway, and into bumper to bumper city traffic.

Highest score I ever got was 42mpg on the trip there, but the average is definitely about 35mph from start to finish.

That’s hurrible. All in town, all full throttle? Most of my 2.0T clients report mid twenties on average, at least, over 30 highway.

Roughly 40mpg and my sat nav has my average speed at 63mph (my car doesnt have a trip computer that detailed. Most of my driving is on 60 or 70mph roads.

I guess it’s the daily half-hour stop and go traffic jams, and the fact that I’m usually late.

This is the USA portion of a recent vacation. Average would be higher if the Garmin worked in Canada. We blew through New Brunswick at 85 and only stopped for gas.

I’ll be happy to be disqualified for any notoriety, but I’m not sayin’ when, where or why I have this. I’m especially not going to say who the driver(s) are. I will say it was from a trip somewhere in the western half of the US. It is from a phone app for GPS speed and distance. The car that did this does not have average speed on it’s piddly little display. By the way, this app’s average speed is actually too high, since it quits timing during stops. The actual time including stops was 22 hours 12 minutes for the 1667.78 miles (go by the reset-able trip odos, not the overall odo), so 75.12 mph overall.

So my 89 km/h for 9999+ km isn’t that bad. Mostly Dutch highway and German Autobahn (max ~150) though. 10L LPG/km.

That’s bad. My Peugeot indicates an average of 88 kmh, including traffic jams and stop lights. 90+% of the time I’m in the car I’m on a highway though.

Highways cost about 25cts per km on average in toll here so you only take them for longer trips when you have no choice lol

I wrote about it on R&T: http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/travel/a31863/what-its-really-like-to-drive-a-car-in-japan-an-explainer/
