My rice rocket in front, my new neighbor’s two vehicles behind
Someone moved into the empty condo two doors down from me about a week ago. Finally got to see his cars when we pulled into our parking lot at the same time. Chatted for a bit, and I asked if he wanted my stock wheels (for free, they don’t clear the brakes and are just taking up space), which he declined as he has some forged wheels on the horizon. Real nice guy, in addition to the Miata he has a 4runner that looks like it sees some trails.
The condo lineup is now 3 Miatas (2 NA, 1 NB) one last gen Sti Hatch, a Cts-V coupe (the glorious tank-like angular one), a heavily modified terminator Mustang, an Orange audi s4 (if I recall that was like a $10k special run candy color option... Jeez) Volvo S60r, Evo IIX, one of those ridiculous AMG hatchback/crossover things (the 4 cylinder with ungodly horsepower, you know the one) a MANUAL Juke Nismo, a yellow and black smart car lowered on deep dish wheels, and 4 wranglers in various states of off-road kit. Not bad for a 82 unit place.

my neighbor to the left has a CRV, to the right it’a CLA 250 and a Ram 2500...so yes you can easily assume I live in car hell.

My apartment complex is the gestapo about vehicle maintenance in the parking lot. I have bonded with fellow neighbors while doing illegal maintenance. They have some hoopty rides but either way I can relate to any other parking lot mechanic.

When I was younger I thought the fold out table in the CRV made it the coolest vehicle ever.
I guess one benefit to not having a house is the larger amount of neighbors, and automotive tastes

On my road can be found a Ramcharger, a ‘67-’72 F-150 with cherry bombs, and a V70R with a trailer hitch that actually gets used. I’ve never met the folks that own them.

“oh, you backed into a parking spot. That’s a $150 fine.”
I know your pain. Someone from our homeowners association wrote on the Evo IIX owner’s hood in some kind of permanent marker telling him that he’s not allowed to wash it in the parking lot. Would not come off. One of the few times I enjoyed hearing about something going to court (had to repaint).

I’ll take the wagon, you take the Ram.
Also, what are cherry bombs?

I’m pretty blessed here in my subdivision. Various neighbors have: ‘64 Faclon Ranchero, R35 GT-R, ‘69(?) Camaro SS, BRZ, brand new Tacoma TRD Pro, R129 SL500 (in sorry shape, owner has cancer, says if he pulls thru his first mission is fix t up), Delorean, E-Type, Golf R, 80's Trans Am project up in blocks, Z1000J, a project Foz XT, some weird lifted matte green Bronco, an A-Team van clone, and a manual E39 540i. One guy had an amazing TDI manual Passat wagon but he got rid of it when it started his driveway into a lake of oil. There’s a bright yellow Defender I’ve been seeing in a driveway over the last few days, but I’m not sure if it belongs to a neighbor or just someone visiting for the holiday. The E-Type owner is cool as hell. Older guy with all sorts of crazy car storiesI love bumping into him when I’m walking the dogs. He had a ratty looking 914 on a trailer in his driveway for a few months, said it belongs to his brother.

Guy who lives across the street has a really clean 5.0 foxbody mustang he’s had for decades, seems to always be doing something in the garage on it or one of the other many cars in his family. Otherwise I’ve not seen much in the neighborhood.
Someone does have an HHR with a rotted exhaust though, I hear it coming when outside and am routinely disappointed.

Theres a guy down the street with another R50 and another with a Vehicross. Those and the 9-2x turbo are the only other interesting cars in the neighborhood.

To my left, a Kia Soul and a Ram 1500. To my right, some old people who walk everywhere. Behind, a Honda Odyssey. In front, a base Colorado and an Avalon. I assume they all make *tisk* noises when they look towards my house.

It’s a brand name for a fiberglass muffler. They don’t resonate like a normal muffler so they have the effect of making your exhaust very snarly and crackly.

There was a time I’d have been glad for this, but now I’m glad my neighbors aren’t into cars. I don’t want to sound like a dick, but after an often mentally & emotionally draining day at the shop talking about and fixing other people’s cars, the last thing I want to do is talk about and fix other people’s cars in my own space. I just want to work on mine in peace, on the rare occasion I have time for it. I lived in an apartment for a year, and once a couple of guys nearby found out what I did, it was nonstop, they wanted me to come over all the damn time to help them diagnose and fix shit for free after work. I got over that real quick.

Haha yeah an HHR would do that to me as well. I love Abarths but every time I hear one I’m expecting some high-strung Italian monster and it’s this frumpy little hatchback...

Fair enough. That does sound pretty draining on a regular business. As long as the neighbors don’t mind wrenching it’s all good right?

They do. And wave their hand to get you to slow down, speed racer. Also why’s your car so loud, is it broken?

Yep, I’m stoked they’re into cars and working on them, and I’d be happy to just shoot the shit over beers on the weekend, but after work if it’s not mine it’s the last thing I want to do.

My complex isn’t quite that cool, off the top of my head there’s a XLR, a M2, couple Evo X’s, a track car E39, a couple sport bike guys, and then my dad and I’s Mustangs.

The people down the street from us have a blobeye WRX, A new challenger scat pack, an early-70s Chevy stepside pick up, and a patinaed late 60s Lincoln Continental with bomber graphics on the side. Another neighbor has a 71 Porsche 911. Yet a third neighbor restores 40's cars in his garage. There are two households that collect old Fords, and between them they have several roush mustangs, a Skyliner Fairlane, and a couple of authentic 68 through 70 Shelby mustangs. I know I’m missing some, I can’t think of them all right now.

My neighbors couldn’t be called enthusiasts, none of them drive anything interesting, but they’re all cool about my cars and enthusiasm. The retired couple next door (who owns one vehicle, a first gen Equinox), were disappointed when I got rid of my ‘74 Buick Apollo with obscenely loud straight pipes.

Nah, I don’t have anything loud any more because wife. I do, however, have a big lifted Cherokee that rarely gets washed, a big 24' travel trailer off to the side, an actual decent-looking Grand Cherokee, and a rusty Studebaker. I did just sell an NA Miata and a 2005 Magnum RT, and sent my NC Miata off to a body shop, though. And I’m probably going to by a massive square-body Suburban by springtime. Plus, my wife has a company car, so her ‘14 Outback just got swapped out for a ‘16 Rav4 (RAV-4? Rav-4? Who cares... it’s a hateful little thing).

It’s a pretty cool place. Oddly the Delorean owners don’t really seem like enthusiasts. They’re nice people but they’re like oh yeah we have a Delorean. It doesn’t really run but our son thinks it’s cool and wil be upset if we sell it.

Holy crap that is messed up. I’ve never had other residents bother me at least. Just the people who run the place. At least we have a car wash station (gotta bring your own hose) and nobody works there on Sundays so I get things done.

-Showroom condition late 90s Tacoma
-2 lifted Sidekicks with winches
-Modified Lancer
-V8 Volvo S80 (driven by a dude in college)
-SL55 with Renntech goodies
-Showroom fresh 3.2TL
-Volvo XC60 R-design (nearly new)

I have “lazy” auto enthusiasts as my neighbors. which is why I harp on getting modifications properly. Because anytime I’m hearing some car struggling outside when I’m trying to sleep its one of those cars where they have belts that haven’t been replaced and blown shocks and used cut springs in an attempt to lower the car and put huge speakers for car audio but its crap sound because they didn’t get good speakers (it sounds like they tried to do it themselves and they mucked it up and didn’t even bother to call Crutchfield or something)
