Why do people ignore recall letters they receive for their vehicles? I just followed a Pontiac G6 that kept its brake lights on UNTIL the driver used her brakes. Then, the lights went off. The G6 was recalled for this quite a while ago. This person is going to end up getting rear-ended eventually.

Judging by the overall appearance and condition of the car, it hasn’t been to a dealership or any other type of service center (or been worked on/maintained by its owner) in a long, long time.

I get so frustrated by the “put gas in it and ignore everything else” car owners around here. I guess part of it is because Kentucky doesn’t have vehicle safety or emissions inspections. It’s your business if you want to slowly destroy your car by not fixing things it needs fixed or not maintaining things that need to be maintained (this G6 also had a madly vibrating and bouncing right rear wheel), but once it becomes a safety hazard, then it is the business of other drivers you share the road with.

This recall for the G6 and its platform mates was issued in 2014. Plenty of time to have had the work done by now. Unless, of course, the owner never got their letter. A big possibility in general but I am still more inclined to believe they just ignored it based on the overall shoddy condition of the vehicle itself.

Pictured: Not the G6 I saw today, but one that likely had its recall ignored as well.

I hate to think how my old G6 looks now. Dealer kept it for their own and sold it shortly after, instead of going to an auction. Though I haven’t seen it around.

It boggles my mind that in a country that depends so much on cars, is so prone to lawsuits and doing safety thing for the sake of protecting stupid people, there are no mandatory safety inspections.

This shit is outright dangerous.

I kinda like the G6 sedan’s look. It’s too bad the engines are a let down.

Counterpoint: maybe they’re ignoring it in hopes of getting rear ended and getting the insurance check so they can drive something that isn’t a G6.

Many states have them. But, my uber conservative state does not.

Eh, for $6,000 most of that stuff is a wash.

True. I was thinking more when they were newer. We had a 2006 Malibu (same car as the G6 underneath) and it was terrible.

Safety inspections are clearly an infringement of my constitutional rights.

I drive behind one that is that same light blue color each morning with that exact same problem. Each morning she drives down 316 like a pillock with her mismatched wheels, front drive donut tire, and car filled with trash.

I have told her at the light once when her windows were down. Over the smell of the BO and possible urine, I choked out that her brake lights were messed up. She grunted back “I know dumbass” and drove off.

Good riddance slag.

What if they did not know of the recall. Third or fourth owner of these at this point has not way for the manufacturer to know they own the car.

I was behind a Malibu on the way home from work with the same issue. I didn’t have the chance to get next to her to say something. I live in a congested area so I don’t see her getting by with it too much longer without getting hit.

There are, in certain states. Vehicle registration isn’t a federal matter.
