Finally got a good shot of my front camber.

It looks a lot more dramatic than it is.

Haha, either way I don’t quite see how #stancenation would work with a live axle. Hopefully after I get buckets in and the diff done, it can start being way more fun.

In before the crub post.. you planning on driving that in the winter?

That looks sweet, reminds me of the other end of a good and dirty beetle..

I guess the way I see it is that cars are meant to be driven, and it would be kinda rude if I parked it and drove my mom’s Matrix this winter.

Thanks! The camber looks ridiculous from this angle, but it’s actually not too dramatic.

All I’m saying is pay attention to the trade-offs..

I’ve done the lowered modified v’dub in Edmonton during the winter, and the same HR cupkit and RSB that really made it carve in the summer months made it crab like Ziodberg in the snow and it eventually ended up undrivable.

And watch your back, because if it comes to light that your suspension was altered and your alignment was whack on purpose and could have contributed to something bad happening... you can imagine the rest.

Your fronts handle the steering and stopping.. I wouldn’t get too crazy with them.

Ehh, my fronts are within provincial standards both in ride height and in alignment (rears are only height adjustable, still within standards), so I don’t really see any potential liability issues stemming from that. The camber is pretty much 0 in sharp turns (had a huge camber change issue during Autocross), so I don’t see too much of a problem there as many OEM cars are also near 0 during tight cornering.

As for general handling characteristics, it’s a RWD barge so it’s gonna oversteer, but I feel that this setup is actually safer as it used to tank slap real bad on the autocross course when correcting oversteer on the stock suspension.

I have the front end of the p71 at -1 +6 1/16in camber/caster/toe and from certain angles the camber looks absurd. I don’t know if it’s the shape of the fenders or what, but I’m curious what you’re set at; it’s substantially more than a degree though. In my experience where I’m at makes a world of difference (for the better) in handling.

I think it’s at -2.7 , I forget exactly what I finally ended up setting the camber at. Caster’s +3.5, and toe is pretty much 0. Sorta-sketchy homemade alignment equipment FTW. At least the tires are wearing fairly evenly and not excessively. The Aerobodies suck when it comes to camber change in corners, due to a combination of weird control arm length differences and 215/70R15s.

That’s quite a bit of camber, surprised the adjustments went that far! I eyeballed mine and took it to the shop after replacing ball joints, one side was within factory spec and the other was almost exactly what I wanted it set to...

I think the caster was one of the biggest things in terms of feel, you may want to go more positive with it. Should help the steering stick to center and overall give you some more weight/feel to it. The little adjuster on the steering box also can be (gently) adjusted to tighten it up if you have a lot of miles on the rack.

As for camber gain, at least it’s better than my Chevelle, which is on stock suspension and will lose camber in compression .

Funny, mine also loses camber in compression. Also, sidewall roll.
