All the nuclear reactors in the world are about to blow up, good thing you have a warning. Now you need a vehicle to get around. You have $/€/£/what ever 5,000 in your currency to buy a vehicle to get around, what would it be?
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . The engine is very under stressed, it has 4wd for the most tough conditions, its small enough to get around in tight spaces.

I only have two requirements: 4x4 and a carburetor.

I’d go for a Baja bug - easy to find for under 5k, plus they have reasonable enough off road ability, are very easy to fix, relatively reliable, and sip fuel, which would likely be in short supply

Would really suck if you are in Japan. 5000 Yen isn’t going to get you very much.

90s suburban. Old enough to be simple (fuel injection = more reliable when given minor maintenance). New enough to be in good shape. 2700$ for this example , plenty left over for spares and fuel.

This Mercedes W124 250TD. That car will run forever and, because it’s a diesel, you won’t have to worry about spoilt gasoline. Wagon for practicality.

You steal fuel, after it hits money be irrelevant. You could spend that left over money on a basic tool kit for up keep before it hits.

Is like $45 even enough to buy a halfway decent bicycle? What is the equivalent of Craigslist out there? Maybe I can buy a $45 bicycle and trade up until I have a real vehicle.
TheBloody, Oppositelock lives on in our shitposts.

Something Like This: There are *TON* of 2WD, manual, 12v Cummins Rams out there, for under $5000 but 4x4 is pretty hard to find under $5000. Still, 4x4, 5spd, Cummins Ram. Thats my survival vehicle. If it comes to that, I can run it on homebrew biodiesel. (actually, this is one of the things that bugs me most about The Walking Dead, unless someone is operating a refinery somewhere, NONE of those gasoline vehicles should run for *SHIT* any more, if at all, and everyone should be driving Diesels....)

similar age, but I’d go with a diesel F-250 .
Why?
the pre-Powerstroke trucks with the IDI diesel had minimal critical electronics; as long as you’ve got 12 volts to one wire @ the injection pump, you can enable fuel flow, and a pair of pliers to jump the glow plug relay for pre-heat. Plus they’re indirect injection so they’ll happily run on diesel, kerosene (add a little oil to lubricate the injection pump,) bio, WVO, SVO, etc. plus I’ve owned them and I know the engines inside and out.

Yup. Fuel pump goes bad you can just gravity feed the carb.

‘80s-’90s Toyota Pickup. Dead simple, reliable, and I could maybe get a ratty 4WD for my $5k. If the FI fails, yank it out and run the carb’d 22R.

Hmm, I had one of those early to mid 90s F150s at one point.
I’d probably go for a W124 diesel. Sure it’s not 4WD, but it will run after an EMP blast.
Otherwise, I’d take my Silverado. So long as an EMP blast doesn’t fry the ECU and TCU, it’s good to go. Sure it’s huge, but it will do literally everything you ask.

I came to say this. Also, I already own one. Total cost so far minus standard maintenance has been right at $5k.
