*****UPDATE****

Thanks to everyone who shed some light on this for me. I found out that the ETB and TPS are one in the same and you have to replace the entire one. I have a close friend with one in stock at his repair shop from a car with 15k miles. He is charging me much less than the $320 the dealer wants. I will be pulling that car apart this weekend with the factory service manual in hand.

So, TL;DR version: wife has ‘14 Ford Escape. Has been intermittently throwing a code and hesitating/losing acceleration. Being that it’s my wife and my 2 year old son ride together, this is an issue. So I come to you Oppo, with a plea for help. I literally have no idea what is going on. I have no issues working on older cars but these current rolling computers have got me stumped. *Insert old man rabble*

P2135. I tried dielectric grease in the pedal connector, nope. So I replaced the accelerator pedal assembly. Nope. I reset the PCM by doing the 800 piece disassembly to access the battery. Nope.

I am coming up with absolutely nothing for a solution. No forums, no YouTube videos. nothing. My next options are trying to fish the throttle body out and replacing the TPS. Is that really what can fix that? It says voltage problem but I don’t know where to look.

1.6 Ecoboost? My coworker has a 2013 Escape SEL with that engine and has at least 3 wiring harnesses installed due to stalling when making a left turn.

It’s a 2014, that should be under warranty.

Unfortunately no. It has 58,000 miles and it is not under warranty anymore. Lucky us.

Would a TPS not fall under the drivetrain 5/60k warranty? Might be worth asking the dealer to check for sure before you go another 2k miles.

I asked and the advisor said no. He said that sensors only fall under the 3/36 warranty.

I had a 1997 Explorer that was doing about the same thing. Sometimes I’d be sitting at a light and it would just die on me, or I’d press the pedal and the engine wouldn’t respond or hesitate. Well, it finally threw a code related to the TPS. Replaced that and it ran fine after that. We got a new one from Ford and it was like $120.

Wow, that is some bullshit. How is the theottle not apart of the drivetrane? Also, hiw do they know what is broken if they haven’t diagnosd it? I’d try to get them to diagnose it in order to make sure it isn’t covered under warranty. Tell then if the repair isn’t covered then you will do the repair yourself. Then write a letter to Ford saying you think it is bs that sensors that control the drivetrane aren’t covered under the drivetrane warranty.

If they won’t diagnise it I’d see if you can get yourself a shop manual. There will be a whole series of things to test in order to narrow down the issue. Otherwise you’re just throwing parts at it.

don’t shotgun parts onto the car. that code is not telling you that there was a problem in the pedal assembly. What “Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch A/B Voltage Correlation” means is that the signals from the pedal position sensors and the TPS in the throttle body don’t “match” what it’s expecting. it could be that one of the sensors is bad, or a wiring/connector fault.

WE had a broken TPS on our 2001 Toyota Tundra way back. It had low miles, but it wasn’t under warranty. New Throtle position sensor fixed it. It had similar issues, stalling/hesitation.

Log the TPS voltage live under driving and it’ll probably spike or drop to 0v, my mom’s focus did the same. It just doesn’t pull untill the engines goes “wait, the MAF reads plenty of air but the TPS is 0v. LET’S GO THEN”

Thanks a ton for the input. I actually just learned that the car does not have a TPS, but rather an entire sealed ETB. The worst part is that Ford is extending the warranty of ETBs of ‘10-’13 Escapes, but not the ‘14's
