I need your opinion if this qualifies as successful wrenching, so I kept a photo diary of my work.

I opened the seat and removed the storage bucket to get access to the engine.

I disconnected the battery.

The starter is under the hose leading into the carburetor. Before you look at the next pic, see if you can see anything out of place.

Now wait just a god damn minute. I don’t know much, but that doesn’t look like a solid electrical connection to me.

I pushed it on to make it secure. I connected the carb and battery, just to see what would happen if I tried it. I pushed the button, and it fired up perfectly. I did it again. Perfect start. I went for a ride to celebrate, and saw a much newer and nicer Vespa than mine. I was a little jealous.

I guess I have an extra starter if this goes bad.

Can I claim wrenching victory or am I just a sad pretender? Should I have put the new starter in anyway?

It’s a wrenching victory in my books. Anytime it takes less effort to accomplish a job is a major victory.

Counts. Especially when you put the wrench in the photos.
