A phenomenal vehicle that many enthusiasts will miss out on purely because of the usual vehicular prejudices. Not just one of the best Lexus or Toyota products ever made, but a real gem of all modern autodom. The facelifted 450h is the pinnacle of the lineage. It’s going to be another decade before Lexus can surpass the last generation RX.

10/10, would recommend to all your parents and their friends. Also one of only three cars universally acceptable to be given as gift.

I’ll take one!

The 450h accelerates badass.

The full electric rear diff on these and the previous gen are so rad. Nobody cares about all the incredible engineering on the RX hybrids unless it had an Audi badge on the grille. If so, then all the cliche “german engineering hubbub” would be over used.

‘Phenomenal’? Nah. It’s a sleepy hybrid crossover. Nothing wrong with that of course, but you don’t become phenomenal by doing mediocre things really well.

Nothing wrong with buying and being satisfied and happy with a hybrid crossover, but there are phenomenal vehicles in the world and this is very obviously not one of them, even if it is really good.

Toyota makes awesome cars. Too bad there’s no RX-F

Phenomenal?

Gem?

Fuck no. I’ve driven two of them, absolutely horrible cars. You’re so much better off with the competition.

One of the few crossovers I really like. Even the first and second generation of the RX look quite good to me.

Well every story needs a conflict. You can’t get clicks with a headline like, “Car continues to function flawlessly despite complex systems and points of failure”. That’s not interesting.

Now, “25% of all models spontaneously combust at random” or “Engine features timing chain literally made of silly string and hopeful dreams”, or “Alternator repair on $25k Hothatch requires complete disassembly of the whole vehicle”? NOW you’re gonna see some clicks! That’s why the Germans will always get more free press than the Japanese. Disasters are just more newsworthy!

strategy lol :] But enthusiasts love those sort of stories so they could fib about in ways like,

“did you know that on a ( european car ) you have to replace the entire drivetrain and do 100 software downloads to replace the cup holder... that is awesome because the engineers are that precise with their engineering of engines and neering”

“Yes, I am an automotive guru. Did I ever tell you about a good friend of mine....a personal friend named Doug DeMuro....no?.... take a seat”

I stopped reading after you said it was one of the best Toyota products ever made. Probably not even in the top ten trucks Toyota has ever made, nevertheless vehicles.

It’s easy to be the top performer in a segment that few people experience and even fewer provide a comparative product for. I think there is a lot of merit in being consistently the top performer by a large margin in the most competitive segments year after year. That’s why I always give the 3-Series and 911 their dues as well as the Prius and F150.

I got the complete opposite impression. I thought it was one of the best riding, smoothest, and most refined vehicles outside of a luxury limo. Especially compared to how mass market CUVs ride even today.

Would I ever buy one? Almost certainly not. Would I recommend one to a myriad of different people? Absolutely. There’s plenty to be said for a well-made, well-appointed crossover that just works.

I’ve had two. The 1st was a 2007. Hybrid that YES was given to me when I left to college. I know have a 2015 that I enjoy. I wish it was faster and the gas milage sucks. But I'm a young guy in my 20s. I blacked mine out as well and love it more. I've considered trading it and I am shocked at how well it's held its value.
