In this impromptu DMV test by KRON4's Stanley Roberts, drivers can’t identify one common Road Sign and what it means. A Felon manages to outsmart other drivers.

Well almost common road sign.

Common enough to ignore!

It’s a stop sign, clearly...at least that’s what happens when these types of people enter an empty roundabout.

*facepalm*
Isn’t it a “pop quiz” every time you drive a car?
“Here’s a sign. What do you do now?”

Well to be fair, they’re usually yellow and say “YIELD” on them.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a yellow yield sign. I am familiar with the red/white design, as used in the video.
I’ve spent most of my time driving throughout the southern US and Colorado.

Hmm, apparently all new signs are red and white. I always wondered why some where yellow and some weren’t.

I don’t think they’ve been yellow for quite awhile. I think they went to white and red because red means stop.

Never seen one like that. I’m used to ones that actually say “yield” or equivalent and are red and white.
But then again, I don’t live in America, never mind California.
And also again, I’d recognise a sign when it’s actually on the road. Being confornted with one on an ipad is a whole different thing.

We don’t know who many people he had to contact in order to find these clueless folks.
Either way, DMV is depressing.

If that lady has never seen that sign does she mean she has always cut people off and never knew why they honked at her?

I guess California has some old road signs. And I’ll probably forget what that sign means as well as it isn’t propped up anywhere I live.

This explains how no one in this state knows what the fuck it means and either ignores it or comes to a FULL AND COMPLETE STOP!

I can tell you he didn’t have to search very hard to find those idiots. It probably took him weeks to find the two people who actually knew it what it was and what it means to yield.

Oh no she knows why everyone is honking: because everyone else is wrong and therefore everyone else is an asshole.

I’d be curious to try the experiment at DMVs in different socioeconomic communities. Also, I think a driving test ought to be required at DL renewal time.

And how many more people did you interview that had no idea what a yield sign was, or what it means to yield?

I live in a upper middle class area and people here also have no idea how to drive, and they also think they are always right.
And honestly, requiring a re-test at renewal would not help at all, as our testing in California is so inadequate. I managed to pass my written and driving test with less than 2 weeks of driving, and zero classroom or formal driving training. It shouldn’t be that easy.

Agreed. Like Germany: getting a DL is a major undertaking.
