Posted for the firearms enthusiasts that I know are here on Oppo. Raise your hand if you know what this is. So happy my manager finally bought this, because it is way more durable that the prior tools we used.

Your work looks more fun than mine. Are those .223 that you’re reloading?

Not entirely sure what it is but I have a couple ideas. I’ve looked into reloading a little but it seems to have a relatively high cost of entry and unless you shoot a good bit, it’ll take a while to recoup the savings. That’s for target shooting at least. I know some hunters are super specific about their loads so it’s more about the final product than costs.

reminds me I need to do some reloading. My brother got my dads brass polisher and press, but I have the die for my guns. I need to go over and do some loading with him sometime. The one we have is a Dillon like the RL550, not sure of the model number though

.30 carbine. It can be a fun job. Not every day is on the range and not every range job is fun though.

Yep. You have to either shoot a lot, need a very specific projectile/speed combination you can’t get from the factory, shoot an oddball caliber that has expensive factory ammo or just love it. For a lot of folks it is a hobby and recouping 100% of the investment isn’t the goal so much as the satisfaction of getting acccurate targets with your own reloaded cartridges.

That’s a pretty nice one there. We have things strewn about as separate pieces. At one point we had an RCBS press attached to wheel off of a GM SUV. Long story that I’ll tell some time the NDA expires.

I think that there is something so neat about reloading ammunition. I wish I shot enough to warrant it.

Heh, my CETME has a fluted chamber so reloading isn’t really an option for me. Does a real number on the brass, on the flip side though I can feed it steel without having to worry.

Thinking of getting into reloading of 16GA shotgun shells, because 2 1/2" 16GA is such a perverse size you can pretty much only get it online.

Since no one else has said it in the comments, it’s a benchtop priming tool for unprimed brass. Previously we’ve used the handheld ones. This guy has a much longer lever arm so less effort required. Should be more durable... the handheld ones seem to wear out pretty quickly.

My fault for buying a 90 year old semi-auto Browning made in Belgium.

Looks much nicer than my hand held universal priming tool. Though it’s never really let me down I guess.
Where do you load the primers on that model? Is it a one at a time situation?

My FIL reloads a lot, but he has some expensive caliber rounds. I only shoot 9mm and 5.56mm and I get them for $.18-.21 for 9mm and $.30-.31 for 5.56. I have to do some calculations and see if reloading would even make sense with the time needed. I usually have more money than time.
If I do join this nearby range - $55 per month for me and my wife - I have a feeling I’ll shoot a whole lot more.

Are you perhaps talking about the Browning Auto 5? Because those things are very cool.

Yes, it *is* an Auto 5. Serial 45005, probably made around 1927. Original furniture still on it is somewhat abused, and there’s a small crack in the back edge of the ejector opening, because the early ones didn’t have rounded corners there, just a milled 90 degrees. It seems to shoot very well, but 2 3/4" hulls don’t eject, so I’ve had yet to try it in spammy mode.

I mean, I’ve got a 12GA of similar age, it’s just a single shot and not awesome and spammy like my 16GA is. Yeah, making the problem worse is that it’s a semi-auto.
I’m currently planning on getting fancy turn of the century-ish brass cases like a sir.

It’s an “automatic” primer - there is a tube that you fill with primers then you press the lever once to drop a primer in the press then you put the case in and press the lever again. The tube isn’t in the photo. It’s actually pretty neat - there is a plastic end that grabs the primers out of the tray. So you can just load up a whole box of 100 primers at once. You can also drop them on one at a time if you want. The handheld tools have worn out on us - but we’re running a small range and can load hundreds of rounds in a day for weeks at a time.
You’ve been making some good comments here - see if you find a mod thread to reply to and get out of the grays.

Nice, I might have to get one of these. I just shoot bolt rifles, so I don’t have too much trouble with the hand held tool. However, when I have to switch from small to large rifle primers, it’s pretty fiddly.
I’ll see what I can do about getting out of the grays... I assumed it would carry over from Jalopnik, but I guess not.

Yeah this guy has separate rods for small and large rifle. AFAIK each sub-blog has its own list. Around when Gawker got sold to Univision there was a big one-time merge of all the car-related blogs, but it appears to have been a one-time only thing.
