I’ve been active on Oppo’s FB, but I’m not there to talk about this. I’ve got something much more interesting to show and ask. Did you know that NA Miata tail lights were considered art back in 1983? Have a look!

Now, Oscar May from the FB group had an idea. How about a QOTD? What is the most artistic set of tail lights? I’ll make a different post for the QOTD later on if the demand is there.

It’s maybe not in the spirit of the question because they’re custom, but I absolutely love the Ringbrothers Pantera taillights.
Here’s a photo I took earlier this year:
Here’s a photo (that I didn’t take) that shows them on... simple but gorgeous.

Same answer I had on Facebook:
I’m honestly surprised that this is the first time someone has used the general principle of these toys in car design.

...and now I can’t unsee it!

Oh, also, before anyone comments about art being stupid and lazy, the MOMA has a lot of random things in the archives that aren’t on display and probably never will be. There’s a cheap wireless router in there, too. I don’t understand why they have these things, either, but at least the stuff they display is usually objectively impressive.

Gotta love filled lights like this. I totally agree with you.

Very simple, elegant, and honestly - beautiful. The ring (get it?) does a great job visually, as well. It’s P-shaped!

Depends. When I was in fine arts, we learned that once your name is quite established in the art world, you can do what you want and get payed a huge sum. You can even expose a simple object and get praised for it after that.

This was well thought! I didn’t notice the P before you told me, but now I’m even more impressed. I just like how the ring is floating!

Huh. I guess that does make sense, anyway.

These were found on a Hyundai Sonata, of all vehicles.

Agree on this one as well. I remember when I saw it for the first time, it made all the other hybrids taillights look bland.

I agree, always thought these were pretty cool looking! Plus, they boltvright in to the non-hybrid Sonata as well! :P

Art must be either incomprehensible, or natural and true.
