So apparently the oil filter housing seal goes fairly normally on these cars. Mine is quickly approaching 93k miles and it is leaking now. I read some DIYs and they talk about requiring a coolant change. I’m thinking now is a good time for that anyway. Any tips or trick or other suggested maintenance items while I’m in there?
I’m actually surprised it went this long going by what people describe on the forums. Plus it aligns with my oil change interval.

i did mine on the n54 earlier this year and it was straightforward. if it’s time for oil and coolant too, you’re already saving steps and money. i wouldn’t say it would be worth it for just the gasket if your coolant was recently changed.

Thank You for the input. did a lot of coolant spill out when you took it apart?
I’ve pretty much made up my mind that I will be trading the car in after winter, so I’m trying to avoid putting more money into it now, but coolant flush is pretty important and not all that expensive.

if i remember correctly, just a couple of ounces or so. i had wadded up some clean rags around the housing before it came off so it wasn’t too messy.

Thanks! I cleaned a bit and did a little more investigating and found out it was the filter cap seal that had failed.
