Found more info. It’s
RAF Wroughton,
it opened in 1940 and was decommissioned in the 90's.

Don’t they call it the Eboladrome?

I’m curious why they didn’t use part of the runway.

You seriously need to let them know that and get some behind the scenes access.

Benefits lightness and handling over horsepower. I approve.

I just measured it. That’s a 3300 ft straight. The longest straight at the Top Gear track was about half of that at 1500 ft.
Not sure what that proves, but those are the straight lengths.
Once I found the location, I was just suprised they didn’t use any of the runway.

They didn’t even give you credit? That’s not nice...

Interesting. The Stig could carry a ton of speed through the Follow Through/Bentley, though - pretty much flat out through that left sweeper. Not one long straight, but some serious speed built up before having to get on the binders.
Maybe this didn’t want to use the runway because the old Top Gear track was so obviously on a runway.

I believe They’re technically still active runways, unlike the Topgear track.

If true, that’s a pretty good reason not to use it. :)

Also -
There’s a sign right there that says “Science Museum Wroughton” and if you punch that into the gargler, you get a map of the track

The explanation of the Isn’t Straight tickled me for hours.

No safety runoff?
As they made abundantly clear, that track isn’t exactly forgiving of errors.

I don’t think my suggestion is any more dangerous than what they are using. There is actually more runoff areas if they use the runway.
Someone else suggested that the airport is in use, which makes sense.

Yeah, but who reads the Front Page? I sure don’t.
I watched the first part of Grand Tour last night. I was pleased to see that it was covered by my Prime membership. I thought the jet flyover was appropriately over-the-top, but the show is a personality cult of those three guys, Clarkson chief among them, and I’m just sort of weary of it.
I like Roadkill
much
better.

I love the track. I call it the “Real World” track. You go off, you screw up your car just like you would if you were hauling ass on the streets. The wildlife is a definite concern though, I think they might end up murdering some with their automobiles... PETA’s pissed already! And I LOVE it.

Not a huge fan of the new track. Pretty much a hard blast to a roundabout and then back the other way it seems.
I would have been far more impressed if they were able to use the national course at Silverstone. Better yet, since they have an American driver, use an American track like Road Atlanta!
