I like how the hood is on the roof. Like that’s ever going to go back on.

Is this a clever reference to the fact you may be buying that white Beetle you linked earlier? :O

i don’t really know, probably just keep it mostly stock with a few hop-ups, don’t want to cut it up too bad since it is an autostick.

But i also said the same thing about the alfa when I first bought it soooo.

that one is a super, so the front end is a strut front end, and not the torsion bar set up of the older ones. the front fenders, and hood are a little different, BUT the interchange of parts, is UNREAL. and parts, are cheap cheap. you can buy non running tubs for parts, $100 all day, if youre not worried about titles. you ought to have a blast with it.

The nice thing about Beetles is you don’t have to cut them up unless you plan on sticking a Subaru boxer out back. I would not stick with the autostick(no pun intended). They can be difficult to find parts, unless someone has started making the parts again, and they really aren’t worth it. Since the car is a 72 it should have the clutch cable tube already installed and you can use any IRS transaxle. 72 is also one of the most plentiful years of production. Just getting to run and drive, in any form, saving it from the junkyard is saving it enough. So don’t sweat about keeping it completely original and have fun.

If i do swap the transaxle is there anything else that needs to be changed along with it?

You need the pedals, shifter, linkage, flywheel, and shifter plate. All of that bolts in and can be bought new except for the shifter plate, maybe. I haven’t had a Beetle in ten years so parts availability may have changed lol. You have to change the oil pump over, but it’s literally 4 bolts and can be done while the engine is out of the car changing the transaxle. Beetles can still be very good daily drivers even if you don’t maintain them very well, they seem to slowly break rather than suddenly.
