You have to pick one car to have as your DD and only car for the rest of your life. You can upgrade the car too, it doesn’t have to stay stock. The trick is this - take your current age, and figure out how many more years of driving you’d have until you reach 70 years old, and calculate driving 12000 miles per year, and pick a car which could realistically survive that mileage. Obviously, the younger you are, tougher this task will be.
So, for me that’s 406k miles. I have to count on driving around Colorado, winters with snow, transporting dogs, spare part availability for next 34 years etc. That pretty much ensures I can’t pick a fun sports car. I think my choice would be between a Tahoe/Suburban or any of the GMC/Cadillac cousins, or a Toyota Land Cruiser.
I am pretty sure that a Land Cruiser would be my choice - if the current state of aftermarket is anything to go by, there will be plenty of parts to keep it going to 400k miles. I think one like this would fit the bill
Bonus points if you can pick one watch to wear for the rest of your life, one weapon (handgun, long gun, knife, bow etc) to use for the rest of your life, and one pair of shoes to have for the rest of your life.
I nominate a Luminor Panerai 1950 3 Days Chrono Flyback
A regular Glock 17, simply for usability and parts availability, ease of gun smithing and the possibility to upgrade every part
and my favorite shoes in the world, Timberland Boot Company Wodehouse

Easy peasy!!! I’ll drive a W450 or W451 smart fortwo cdi (diesel) for 47 years, or the equivalent of 564,000 miles...which there are already some smart cdis with more than that many miles.
As for a watch, a Swatch! It’ll fit so well with the smart.
As for a weapon, a computer...because everyone knows future wars are fought with computers.
And for shoes, 6 inch stilettos or GTFO

480,000 miles/40 years. Early 90s Accord wagon with a stick. The sedans were everywhere, so parts are plentiful. I’d start off by swapping in a fresh H22A or H23 VTEC, then when/if that dies (20-30 years from now), swap in the K20C from the new Civic Type R.

Land Cruiser isn’t a bad choice, or a Tundra...they don’t seem to have problems with mileage.
http://www.autoblog.com/2016/05/16/toyota-tundra-million-mile-official/
I have to go 400,000 + miles. I would ideally like something a little easier on gas and tires, but a cruiser is a good choice. Handgun is M1911, because reliable, versatile and powerful...plus keepin it in the family.
watch? I have no clue, but probably a Rolex submariner, something stupid tough so I stop breaking them.
Shoes? No shoe will last for me, but if I had a perpetually refreshing stock, it would certainly be the Scarpa mojito (what I’m wearing right now). Comfy, tough, practical and good looking enough to be work shoes (for me anyway)
BONUS: I just found out they make a slightly classier version for works
Seriously, best shoe ever.

Land Rover Series IIa:
Simple to fix and Land Rover is producing more parts so that shouldn’t be an issue. Plus these trucks are so easy to modify you can swap stuff in and out with ease.
Victorinox Chrono Classic:
CETME/ C308:
Basically the Western AK47, super simple delayed roller blowback action with a fluted chamber and I can get around 2 MOA at 100 yards with iron sites so accurate enough for government work.

I’d probably stick with my Taco, although a Cruiser is tempting. That said, I average closer to 6000/yr for mileage. At that rate, my truck will still only have 150k on it. My current plan is for my son to inherit it once he reaches driving age.

It’s fast, it can carry a lot, it can go off road, it can tow, and it can carry 5 people in a pinch.

I guess I’d stick with Forest my 2008 Forester Sport. I currently drive ~25k a year for (70-36)*25000=850K add that to my 100k already on it and we’re looking at a million mile Subbie. That’s at least 9 more timing belts but mostly rust mitigation due to our salty winter roads.
For weapons I prefer a nice flanged mace.
Watches ... nah
Shoes some Golden Retriever steel toe logger boots.

Let’s see, 636,000 miles.
Did you honestly expect anything different? Parts are dirt cheap, it’s comfortable, you can slam it for the summer and then lift it for the winter if you want, and even though the aftermarket is limited, you’re still able to do pretty much whatever you want with it.
Watch: Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch. Because obvious reasons.
Weapon: Ruger 22 Charger Pistol. It’s rather large for a handgun, but appears to be a good compromise between a long gun and a pistol. Accepting standard .22 LR cartridges is also nice.
Shoes: Vans Sk8-Hi Pro (gum sole). Hardwearing, able to dress up and down, and they feel amazing.

I’m not sure if an Opel Senator could endure at least 60 years but a GM V8 would sure fit in it and has been done before.
For shoes I’d pick the Asics Gel Lyte III. I’m on my second pair and it’s by far the most comfortable shoe I’ve ever had. They’re also available as a sneakerboot.
As for a watch I really like my Seiko.

Pretty much keeping most of the things I already own.
My ‘99 F-150, because I’ve had it basically as long as I could drive, and allowing upgrades means that I could eventually upgrade to newer motors and transmissions for better mileage, performance, and longer life.
Hate wearing watches so don’t need one of those.
Winchester Super X 2 Greenhead, touch on the heavy side but I shoot better with this gun than pretty much any other gun I’ve shot. Don’t hunt anything other than pheasant currently, but works great for waterfoul, and slug barrels are available for deer hunting.
Arait Workhog boots, comfortable, last forever, repairable and can resole if needed. Going on 3?+ years on my current boots and with a light cleaning they still look new.

If I could only have 1 car for the rest of my life, I’d want something practical and reliable and not too complicated. I was thinking RS6 Avant, but honestly a heavily modified Subaru Forester STi would fit the build well. Yeah you’d have to fix the engine every few hundred thousand miles, but I think it would be worth it.
For a watch, I don’t see how you could go wrong with a Citizen Eco Drive
I’m not too into guns or shoes, but I figure that if I had to have 1 weapon until the end of time, an AK47 would probably outlast me and the rest of the observable universe.

My ‘97 V6 Mustang. It already has 210k+ miles, and all that’s wrong is things squeak and rattle more. Would be putting another 528000 on it. Super simple to work on. Parts are cheap and plentiful, and lots of upgrade options so I can make it perform however I want. Car has seen deep snow and ice, so I can use it year round anywhere I’d realistically live. Can carry enough stuff to move everything I owned in college (so anything but furniture).
Overall not glorious, but I don’t expect any glorious car to be able to last that long without bankrupting me.

540,000 miles. 869,000km. This is a toss-up. The MJ will last, but it wouldn’t baby or family very well. Neither the XJ or Niva would be great at that either with only two doors, but I expect the XJ will last longer.
I think a V90XC would do pretty well. Likely out of my budget, but if so I kinda like the Renegade. If/when it’s available in this market with a diesel (and manual!)

Very interesting:
For the car I would pick a Chevrolet SS w/manual. I have to drive a “performance” car but I need some practicality and a car that isn’t obnoxious. Also, small block reliability.
For the weapon, I go with a Glock 17 as well for the reasons you described.
For the shoes, I go with a simple pair of Allen Edmonds cap toe oxfords in dark brown. I figure I can wear them on basically any occasion and they can be repaired. A simple pair of dark brown oxfords will never go out of style.
For the watch, I go with a Rolex Submariner. I know they are a pain and they keep horrible time, but they can be worn all the time and will basically never go out of style.

I can mod it? Cool, I’ll need that for what I’m thinking.
So, especially given the environmental concerns that are only getting stronger, I’d want at least a PHEV. Problem is, most PHEVs out there aren’t really what I’d want for the rest of my life .
Gun to my head, tell me to buy a PHEV now, it’d probably be the Prius Prime Plus (base model). That has some shortcomings, though - Toyota didn’t actually optimize the packaging for the PHEV, which has affected cargo space badly. It’s not as bad as the C-Max Energi, though, in that regard... and those are the only two PHEVs on the market that I’d consider, after having test driven a Gen 2 Volt and hated it, and refusing to go for stepped automatics (if it has multiple discrete gear ratios, I want to shift it myself, damnit). OK, the Pacifica Hybrid is actually an interesting product, but it’s too damn BIG and as a result inefficient, and I don’t want to drive something that big and ponderous anyway.
The watch... that’ll be some sort of Seiko Spring Drive Chronograph. I’ve always found Spring Drive to be interesting, and chronos are just cool. If only Seiko did one with a slide rule bezel...
The Ventura V-matic Loga would be my second place, as it’s got the styling and features I want, though:
The weapon... I’m thinking a folding bow of some sort would be the right way to go. Compact, ammo can be improvised, the ammo can be used as a standalone weapon in a pinch, and quiet.
As far as the shoes, I wouldn’t ask one pair to last this long, but I like Rockport Eurekas:

Thanks! I’d totally DD my Vic for 636k. It does everything I want in a car, and with upgrades allowed, I could really have some fun with it over the years. Constants are nice to have in life, and my Slamther is definitely a part of me.

If you can only have one, why not get something that’s decent at most things you’d use it for?

687,500 miles what would I want to drive that much? I think anything newer and fun would break (CTS-V wagon). Something old and indefinitely repairable. This will be heavily customized:
I cannot stand wear wrist watches, so a WW2 Rolex pocket watch will be perfect:
Weapons ...my quick decision is a dirk:
1 pair of shoes is difficult. I will go with Grinder Regent CS since they can double as dress shoes and work boots. They won’t work for exercise, but I don’t do much of that and in a perfect world I’d get back to rowing.

For sure. That’s why I went with the shotgun. I use one for hunting and home defense so it fits my life perfectly.

The loop at the bottom. Should be underneath instead of above, keeps everything looking consistent. At least in my mind... I have noticed that I need to replace every single pair of shoes or boots I buy, so maybe it’s just my OCD but having the loop over the top just looks so wrong.

Yikes, you think you could keep an RS6 going for the rest of your life as your one and only DD?

It checks all the boxes. Big hp engine, all wheel drive, and room for kids, dogs or stuff. I mean if I needed one car for the rest of my life I want utility and supercar.

Yeah, but maintenance and actually keeping it going? It needs to last you 12000 miles per year until you are 70. You want something reliable too, and RS Audi does not jive with that.

It’s still better this way.
Although while taking this picture I noticed that my workbooks are both laced the same way, not symmetrically. This will upset me until I can correct it

Idk, I have the money for the car, I’d also have the money to service it. At least that’s how I set up this fantasy.
