He isn’t my favorite writer from old Jalopnik, see his WRX review, but he’s on point here for sure.
I was ripping on this car in my post but really if it has even the drivetrain of the Juke Nismo RS I could at least believe it. This is however just bizarre. Like it makes no sense to me. This maybe would work in the market of like 2000 competing against GM’s judicious use of the SS badge and the Mazdaspeed Protege but in 2016? We are in a renaissance of cars like this.

Agreed.
The option of RE71-Rs is pretty interesting though. Not a tire I’d expect a manufacturer to offer as an option on anything other than a car intended to drive right to an autox event and dominate competition.

Yeah, and even the Maxima and Altima don’t have all that much to offer. This Sentra Nismo will likely be as big of a flop as the Altima SE-R was.

Ya i’m curious what class this will be in. If it’s some weird attempt at besting an autocross class that would be amusing. However i’m out of the loop on what this would compete against. I don’t see it being in GS with the GTI and Focus ST obviously.

Based on the specs HS, where the FiST dominates, is the most likely. And I can’t see this thing besting a FiST at autox, with what will likely be a higher curb weight and less power/torque.

The previously announced Hyundai is very similar to this in performance.

A Versa with the same engine and reworked suspension sounds a lot more interesting than the fat “little” Sentra, which weighs in at over 3,000lbs!

The new Maxima was a disappointment, but I’m not sure what I expected from them
