Hi guys! Long time lurker. Need some advice, had my first auto accident last Friday. Lady t boned my evo x at a four way intersection. Idk if she thought she had the right of way or wasn’t looking but by the time I saw her it was too late. She admitted fault when the cops showed up so that’s good I guess :/. Damage looks pretty bad, and I’m pretty bummed. Any and all advise welcome, as I’ve never had to deal with insurance or body shops before. Also feel free to take a guess at the estimate for repair, I should know by tomorrow.

Thanks!!!!

Rocker, quarter, door (maybe 2?) maybe bumper, plus structural unseen stuff, plus suspension parts and paint. I bet you crest $6k - if there’s more unseen damage than it looks like, easily more.

Welcome to Oppo!

Hope her insurance sorts stuff out for you. Go after them for money to recoup lost value too (or ask your insurance company to do that).

Do I know if this is commonly done or not? No. But hey, maybe they compensate you for that?

Welcome to oppo. The only advice I have is be persistent with the insurance company. If you have full coverage you’ll be fine because your own insurance will handle everything in a timely fashion. If you have to wait for the at fault insurance company be patient but also be sure to follow up frequently. If you let them know this is your first time they should be able to give you a run down of how things work. Also, keep receipts for any expenses incurred due to the accident such as towing fees and the like. It wouldn’t hurt to ask for rental reimbursement either. Just had to go through all this 2 months ago when some guy left turned into me from the oncoming traffic lane.

Rear quarter panel appears to be part of the non-removable body structure there. That will be pricey since it probably involves cutting and welding in new metal. Unless that dent is repairable? That alone could total the car but adding in the door(s), rocker panel, maybe suspension bits, and then painting everything makes that even more likely. Side airbags deploy at all?

Sorry to hear that, :(

Suspension and frame geometry will have to be checked, door alone is probably 2k. Unibody rear 1/4 panel is integral to the car frame but they should be able to get cutout to weld onto it + paint and match.

My uneducated guess is $8,888.88.

First, I hope everyone is ok.

I think this could be worse than it looks. I recently t-boned an Escape and it was totaled with even less damage visible. It looks like the C pillar structure might have taken the brunt of that.

Be sure they do a good job with the right-rear suspension. They thought my WRX was fine until they replaced one part and realized it was just slightly out of alignment with the rest of the parts when they couldn’t get the bolts to align. That led to them replacing a number of the suspension components.

I can’t tell if it cut the sidewall of your tire, but if it did, ask them to replace all four tires. When my insurance balked at that request, I sent them the user manual where it states that all four tires must be replaced at the same time to prevent transmission and drivetrain damage. They will prorate the value of your current tires, but in the end it’s worth it. I got a full set of new tires for the cost of one.

Nice! Always have loved the X. Saw a nice white one yesterday. What did you have prior? I went from an ‘05 Mazda 3s hatch to my current ‘08 E90 M3 (bought in ‘12) - fairly big jump!

8000 minimum....probably closer to 10k. I’m betting there is unseen unibody and suspension damage. There’s no way that hit didn’t at least slightly tweak the unibody structure.

Came from a ‘03 Volvo S60 to the X. Kinda miss the S60 every once in awhile but after 220,000 miles the maintenance was becoming a pain to keep up with!

Definitely one of my biggest worries, the wheel was pretty bent out shape. I’ll be sure to follow up with the shop when they finish the estimate. And thanks again I wouldn’t have thought to reference the manual if the tires do need to be replaced.
