Do the chains and off you go. The B6 is not Audi’s best effort in general, but these are great to drive.

It’d be fine if the guides were made out of something other than butter. They did that because the engine could be made shorter than with the belt drive, it wouldn’t fit in the small body otherwise. In fairness to Audi, just about every German manufacturer has timing chain and/or guide problems in recent years.

It is, anything older then 2004 is pretty much a no to her, that includes the Porsche 944 (one of my faves), The 300ZX, and old muscle cars. The few that are ok are FD RX7 and 2nd gen 3000GtVR4

Thank you, VAG, for making those timing chains guide out of plastic.
Fun fact :
Those chains where supposed to last the entire life of the engine.
Therefor, when they break, the engine life end (lol).
