I’ve been looking for somewhat funky, square or other not-round shaped watches. There are tons of “vintage” Seikos and Citizens from assorted Indian watch stores on eBay, for cheap. Like under starting prices under $20 and free international shipping. Here’s what’s on my watch list (pun intended).

Are these genuine used old watches or new cheap clones?

That’s two pictures of the same green watch. ;)

The listings say they’re genuine used old watches. Most of them have pictures of the case backs and movements. For example this is the Citizen with the silver dial:

Can you share a link to one of these listings?

This is one of the sellers, for example.

Really if you just search for “vintage seiko,” “vintage citizen,” etc. you’ll get pages on pages of results.

Don’t snipe me! ;)

I really like that last Seiko 5.

My guess is that because watch repair is so cheap there, they can buy and flip these at such low prices. India is awash with skilled jewelers and the like.

That last one is the only one with active bidding going on it. The rest have zero bidders but that one has 9 bids with 4 days to go.

At the moment I’m trying to decide on if I’ll bid on the silver face octagon Citizen, it ends in a couple hours. Can’t make my mind up between it and the gold face of the same shape.

On that note, there are gobs of old German and Swiss watches on ebay from sellers in Ukraine, Baltics, Poland, etc. Must be a good repair industry there too, as I doubt they were all 1945 war booty.

This is because labor in India is very cheap, and so are these watches. They are refinished, usually with an updated dial, new crystal and polished cases, and timed and put up for sale. Sometimes they get new/refurbished movements to put into the better looking cases, but these are pretty good deals for vintage watches that look nice, but might require service in a year or two.

Yeah I’m not expecting miracles—for 15 bucks a pop it’s mostly an impulse buy. Got a couple in particular I’m eyeing...
