Ah, the stump. My old friend, the scars and injuries you’ve given me... may we never meet again.

I’m fixing the effects of cumulative “teaching moments” I experienced over the summer. The worst was a thread-the-needle exercise between two stumps, where on a fast downhill right I mistimed my cadence. My right crank arm pole vaulted me knee first into the granite rip-rap to the left of the trail. That left a mark.

When I switched my crankset/bottom bracket, I ended up having to having to take it to my LBS to get the bottom bracket out. The “fake” side came out easily, but I could get no purchase on the other side at all. LBS has to use a giant wrench a ton of force to break it free (thanks Bicycle World !). So much nicer when I got the new stuff in though, both for not being worn, and for being better than what I had originally.
