"ttyymmnn" (ttyymmnn)

Our contractor installed the rest of the appliances today. Dishwasher is still awaiting hookup, and that will have to wait until the sink is installed along with the countertops next week. We’re hoping they will arrive Wednesday or Thursday, so the contractor can come back and do the plumbing before Thanksgiving week. Then, the cabinets need toe kicks and touchups, and the contractor will make one last pass through for final touchups. The carpet repair man is coming tomorrow morning to fix the carpet where it was pulled up for construction. But we can now stock our fridge, cook, and stop eating in the living room!
Unfortunately, our range was damaged in shipment. There is a dent on the right side, as you are facing it, but the dent is not visible once it’s installed. However, you can see the dent from above, and there is a chip in the enamel. I can either have the range replaced, or I can tell Lowe’s how much money I want refunded on it. At this point, I have opted for replacement, but that could take up to 8 weeks, since there are none in stock. And, once they deliver it, I’ll have to have somebody come out and hook it up, since the installers won’t do anything with the gas line. So, I’m not sure yet what to do about it. I may just take the money, and see if I can get some black enamel touchup paint. Even if I decide to have it replaced, we can still use it in the interim.
But it’s finally all coming together. Almost there!

Now begins the countdown timer to when the first appliance goes loopy and requires attention - but in the meantime, very nice!

Thanks! We’re pretty excited about it. We’ve got more cabinet space than we know what to do with. But it’s better than the other way around.

I was really unsure about the countertops my dad picked when we redid ours, but when they’re finally in they can make the whole thing. I look forward to seeing pictures of yours. Did you go for a lighter color or a darker one?

Remodels are exciting. We had the bathroom redone in our last house and I couldn’t believe how excited I was by it.

I have a very convincing fingerpuppet named Buzzkill who tells me these things. He also tells me to burn and murder, but I mostly ignore that.

Silestone Alpina White. They’re not white at all, but they are also not terribly dark. There are bits of glass in it that provide nice depth. Should look really nice.

Hey, if ttyymmnn is going to have spontaneous dryer failures that the rest of us have to advise him on, ribbing *will* happen.

Indeed, but we’re not selling. My boys will (hopefully) be out of the house in 7 years, and we expect to die in this house (hopefully later than sooner). So I’ll be enjoying the remodel for a long time.

Thanks! We started on October 10, so just about 6 weeks. Not bad at all. We were planning on 8 weeks.

Ha ha, so I did. Or my kitchen designer did. We kicked around a few ideas, but this one made the most sense. And the new pantry is YUGE!

get the money off, touch it up and then when something drops on it and nicks another spot you have the paint and it won’t be as disappointing! Given time you’ll stop noticing and nobody else, unless told, will ever.

That was my kitchen designer’s idea. The front of the kitchen is already octagonal, and it helps make more space in the eating area. The plan shows our round table extended with its leaf. We will only use the leaf when we have company, which is rare.

Thanks. The color is a little more of a green/aqua than blue, but the color balance is hard to get right. The color was actually suggested by our flooring consultant. I love it, and I never would have picked it myself.

Don’t talk to me about counter depth refrigerators. Picking that fridge was the bane of my existence. I was hoping to get more space in a new fridge, but this one has the same cu ft as my original fridge. A lot of that is down to the CD dimensions, but also to the design. I’m also not crazy about modern fridge design. But a standard depth fridge in this space would have stuck WAY out into the room.

Not granite, but manufactured stone. Granite stains, chips, and costs more. Why would you want it?

I’d recommend something sturdier than icing. It’ll melt in the summer and cleaning it will be a nightmare. Maybe an engineered stone product would be a better choice?
ttyymmnn

Unfortunately, I’ve already paid half down on the icing, with the remainder due when they spread it out.
Actually, we went with this manufactured stone.

I would kill for one of those, and then a double wall oven because I can’t heat up my pizza rolls and bagel bites at the same time.

Pizza rolls. I used to sit and eat an entire big bag of those, along with about 4 beers. I’m still trying to burn off that fat from 15 years ago. It’s probably why I have high blood pressure today. But I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
