So, as luck would have it, just as my Golf TDI is getting prepped for the whole buyback deal, my parents are getting rid of their 2008 CLK550 cabrio. with the AMG appearance package, just 38k miles and all services up to date; and are offering to just give it to me. For free.. I know right! So, I was just wondering if anyone has had experience with these long term or knows much about benz’s with V8s.

What is even the question? Can you afford the repairs with the VW buyback money? I meat, it is an almost new car...

Only vaguely relevant but the lack of quad exhausts on the 55 annoys me more than it should.

More or less. I mean, of course I can afford repairs, but I’m unsure if it would be a money sponge since it is a “performance” Merc.

Even aside from the price etc. This should should be a solid car. Excellent engine, that may need an intake manifold or cam solenoids in about 100k. Sometimes sensors for the roof go bad. Ummm... maybe a conductor plate for the trans in a few years?

Free car is best car. Keep it until the first major thing goes wrong, then trade it in.

The NA 5.5 Benz V8 is one of their more reliable modern motors. it’s been in everything from the E class to the G class, and has a very solid reputation. considering its such low miles, i don’t see it needing anything but regular maintenance for at least a few years.

I say take it and don’t look back
