Was reading this article on TIME...
Hmm, notice regarding ad blockers. It wants me to click.
*click*
Oh, okay. Shit looks fucked, yo.
I see. You want me to turn off my ad blocker.
/passive aggression
Alright, I get it. You need advertisements to generate revenue. But have you considered the fact that the ads you put up clutter the window? They’re utterly distracting. They binge on data when you’re on a cell phone (especially if they auto-play videos). They slow down the entire page.
I will turn off my ad blockers when you guys (and almost every other website) fix your ads.

Exactly how I feel. Make the ads less intrusive and have content I’m willing to “pay” for (by viewing your ads) and I’ll disable adblock for your site. It’s disabled for Jalopnik of course ;)

I’m amazed at the number of sites I visit which have a plea for me to turn ad blocker off. Some of them don’t even allow you to access the site with ad blocker on.

I disable it for my favorite YouTubers. YouTube has pretty decent ad coverage.

I used to have it disabled for Jalopnik then I saw one of those ads you have to wait 5 seconds before you can close them. They lost their ad privileges right there.

Sounds like the ad blocker is now a Time blocker... What a shame, I can’t read half-assed, partially edited, hardly researched articles about the Kardashians visiting the White House.

I dread opening a link from here if it’s to a U.S. site, I mean we have ads on U.K. sites and some can be quite intrusive but the U.S. sites have loads of ads on one page, then add the autoplay on some and I spend the first few seconds reading the post, then the ad will be buffering or something, then suddenly some talking or noise will start then I’ll stop reading to scroll up and down the page to find the ad that’s playing to pause or mute it so I can go back to reading the article.
It’s bloody annoying at best.

You know what happens when I get a website that demands I turn off my ad blocker? I leave and don’t come back.

It’s such a delicate subject. Websites want to make money, readers tend to respect that desire yet don’t want to be annoyed on a website they visit for pleasure. Yet very few website manage to respect their readers enough to only allow ads that are not annoying.

Which is where things like anti-adblock blockers come in (I have a few anti-adblock blocking lists enabled on my home machines (which are running uBlock Origin)...)

If sites would stop using Flash ads (or WEBM, or Silverlight, or ...), stop tracking me, and stop accepting malware-laiden ads from fly-by-night groups I might consider turning off AdBlock and NoScript. Might .

As an owner of many websites with ad-based revenue stream. Please just tell us when you find our ads annoying, send a screen shot too, it’s really hard to find the bad ad when you work with ad networks. We do our best because getting people to come back is easier than finding new people. We are a small company with small sites and we still serve 100-200 million ad impression a month I review the top ads but I can never catch them all. The only way to stop bad ads is to report them. Blocking them gives us no info to work with.

I’m guessing advertisers don’t want subtle ads.
They don’t want to pay for ads that won’t grab your attention or will be easily ignored. So yea ¯\_()_/¯

At first I saw adblockers as a humble little helper app, but over the years I have started to appreciate the genius behind them (especially Adblock Plus). They have effectively created an artificial barrier between marketing firms and their audience, at zero cost. Now Adblock is in charge of your revenue stream, Mr. Website, so you need to follow OUR rules and pay a nominal fee.
It’s like putting a toll booth in the middle of mountain pass on the Oregon Trail. Absolutely brilliant.

Some don’t just clutter and slow things down. Some ads are served up from overloaded servers that take FOREVER to load, and prevent the page I want to view from loading. Blocking those mean I can actually get to the content I want to view, instead of starting at “loading....” forever.

I just use uBlock Origin’s Element Picker and get rid of that ad too.

I haven’t been on BI in ages due to it’s buzzfeed like tendencies, but ran out of internets today. It’s one of those sites that requires you to turn off ad blocker to read anything. This is what happened. DO YOU SEE HOW LITTLE ARTICLE I CAN ACTUALLY SEE! WTF IS THIS?! And the little X wouldn’t close the large top banner ad

I block ads because they’re vectors for malware and I don’t want to be tracked. Give me an untracked “male enhancement” ad any day of the week. It’s when I get the targeted “male enhancement” ads that I start to worry.
