So my dad bought a thing. 2005 WRX with 85k miles. The guy he bought it from put quite a bit of work into the engine. He claimed 300 whp, which by the butt dyno doesn’t seem far off. Also has upgraded suspension, this thing feels like it’s on rails going around corners. This should be fun!

Sweet! I had two “blobeyes” I think they’re still my favorite generation.

I like the bugeye just a little bit better, but yea, the 2nd gen WRX is good.

The 2nd generation is probably my second favorite. I love the look of the 3rd gen wagon the best though

Any idea what turbo’s in the car? 300whp is maybe possible on the hairy edge of a TD04 in an EJ255, but doing it in a 205 seems a bridge too far. My car made about 300whp on a 16G with exhaust and intercooler, but stock fuel system. I’d guess apropos of nothing that there’s likely a VF34 or VF39 in the car, they’re both OEM STI turbos.

Not sure. I’m going to take a closer look at it next time I’m over at his house. He just got it last week and I was just stopping by to pick something up so I didn’t get much time to look it over.

I’ll also add that the guy claimed he put 5k into the engine. My dad says he has a bunch of receipts. I’ll look through those too when I get a chance.

Makes sense. 300whp on an upgraded turbo is a great “leave-it-alone” build level, as it’s about as high as you can go without needing to upgrade engine internals. Other than needing an uprated clutch, my car was pretty reliable at that power level, all things considered.

Definitely do...I have no idea what 5k buys you; that could just be headers, exhaust, turbo, or it could be a mild rebuild if the car was already modded.

Hmm, let us look at the only pic and deduce,.....

Enkei RPF-01 wheels, ok.

Badly painted aftermarket front bumper,.....hmm.

Carbon Fiber hood,........hmm.

Painted headlights (interior),.......hmm.

Gauges on the dash,......hmm.

300 HP,......hmm.

Upgraded suspension,.....ok, what is it? Struts, coils, sways, endlinks, etc?

$5k under the hood,......hmm. Let’s see a under the hood shot.

This is a crapshoot to be honest with only 85k miles. Might be beat on or lovingly cared for. I will bet on the first.

Yea, I need to go over everything and see what’s been done to it. I didn’t even know he was buying it, he’d been looking but hadn’t said anything about finding one

So what I found was that there is an STI turbo and intercooler, turbo back exhaust, cold air intake, and a tune for everything...not sure if that gets 300 whp though

My guess is that to get to the 300whp power level, you’d at least need new injectors and a fuel pump in addition to what’s already on the car. The 2.5L engine in my car had 560cc injectors (larger than the earlier STIs and same size as the later ones), while the 2.0L has 420cc injectors. With fuel system mods, the car will need to be retuned.
