FCA has decided to keep the Charger and Challenger going for another 4 model years before they eventually switch over to the Giorgio platform. So if you bought the 4-door return of the Dodge Charger nameplate back in 2005 while you had a kid in a childseat, then that kid will be old enough to drive by the time the Charger switches off the LX platform. But this is great news!
Think about it, FCA needs to keep these cars exciting for another 4 years and nothing is off limits. The crazier the better!! So what editions, trims, packages, paints, and doodads would you like to see come for the Charger and Challenger?
Also, I STILL say the Chrysler 300 will be FWD. Hopefully we at least get the 300 SRT back just to see the 300 off (which was always a cooler car than the Charger).
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
***And if you’re going to complain about the cars still using the LX platform, VW just announced they will be running the MQB platform for another two generations of vehicles. So, ha ha!

If Toyota can get away with not making real updates for a decade why can’t they?

The MQB is almost a decade newer and that’s before mentioning the Daimler platform that the LX is based off of and that predates the LX by almost another decade. This is decidedly Chrysler.

because yotas are not meant to be exciting. a muscle car is. if you are selling a boring muscle car, something is wrong.

They need to make a Z28 and GT350/350R competitor. I know the Challenger is a pig, but so was the last gen Camaro and in Z28 guise it was amazing.
Here’s what I’m thinking: start with a ScatPack and put it on a diet. Dump the rear seats, some sound deadening, make A/C and stereo an option. Either put flares from the AWD Hellcat on it, or figure out a way to get some more tire under that beast. At least 285 or 295 up front and 305 or 315 out back. I’m sure FCA has a magnetic ride system laying around, so stick that in there. Massage the 6.4L HEMI to get over 500hp/500tq. Install more aggressive gear ratios. Alcantara bits on the interior. Nice, fat steering wheel. Static aero bits (splitter and rear spoiler or wing).

One generation is usually six years now, so this situation will be flipped in eight years. Im talking about the future of inconsequential complaints here!

But it won’t because the MQB will still be newer at the end of that cycle than the LX and what it’s derived from already are.

And then, make a Trans-Am version.
Basically, Hellcat power, but the entire car has a lower roof (generally it’s set much, much lower than the Hellcat), most of the chassis and all of the body is either magnesium or carbon, zero sound deadening, FIA-approved cage, 20-inch 335-section rear (and 19in carbon brakes), and aero kit from the actual Trans-AM TA2 car with DRS rear wing.
That should be more than able to slice and dice the Z/28.

I don’t understand why people care about platforms or how long they’ve been around. they don’t rot.

They’ll do another visual refresh and keep chugging along with random new features. FCA has paid off the tooling in these cars so the profit margin is healthy.
However, I’d imagine still using a Mercedes platform just frustrates the hell out of Sergio. I’m honestly a little surprised they’re doing this. Only a little though because they do this ALL THE TIME.

This is a good point. The current FCA cars based on old Mercedes are the best they have right now. The Durango, Grand Cherokee, Charger, Challenger, and 300 drive so much better than anything else they build. Though the Pacifica is a step in the right direction.

Hellcat- GTS Edition: this is an homage to the Viper, eliminate the backseat, replace doors with carbon fiber, factory role cage, replace front fenders with carbon fiber, hood carbon fiber, roof carbon fiber, trunk lid and trunk floor pan with carbon fiber.. this floor is tubbed to tuck some 355 size monster rear tires inside without them sticking out like a freakmobile this would be easy for them with delete of backseat. 295 width tires on front so new fenders would be widebody but stylized to blend flow with car not just flares bolted on. And offer it in array of colors with a few special options viper GTS stipes, viper ACR stripes, or #11 race stripes also allow for a one of one option selection like viper and bump hp

On the other hand, they also might not fare very well against newer platforms that have incorporated lessons learned...

Double the 2.4L Multiair into a V8, stuff it in the Challenger
