Hello folks. Matt here. I saw a 1984 BMW 5-Series and I’m now in love. What a nice car. Should I get it?
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I made a video of the test drive and took some photos. Let me know your thoughts. I really like this car.

Which engine? If it’s a 535i then go for it. If it’s a 528e, maybe keep looking.

It’s a lovely 528e. I think he’s asking a little too much for it. Assuming everything works as it should, and it drives as nice as it looks, I’d offer $3k.
That said, 3750 isn’t a terrible price if all the mechanicals are good and it leaks no oil. It’s an heirloom quality car, you can drive that thing for another 30 years no problem, with routine maintenance.

I’d keep looking for something with an M30. It looks to be in good shape, but the price is a little high given the miles and that it’s the weaker engine. Although the manual is a big bonus.
I suppose if you’re into such things, you could buy and drive this and keep an eye out for a more powerful engine in the m20 family (which I think include the m50 and s50) for a slightly easier than average (but still you know, an engine swap so somewhat hard) engine swap.

Others have already said this, but if you liked this one, you’ll love a 535i. The 2.7 in the 528e is alright for fuel economy, but that’s about it. The 3.4 M30 in the 535i is a wonderful motor, one of my favourites. One of the cars I really wish I hadn’t sold was my E28.

There are two things I don’t like about the m30 in my car. First, is that it does leak oil and I just haven’t gotten motivated enough to drop the oil pan to swap the gasket. Second, the gas mileage is pretty unimpressive. However, it moves well in my e34 and I’m guessing it’s even quicker in an e28.

I’m not sure what to think about a 528e, now if it were a 33I or 35I I’d say go for it because an e28 is a wonderful car in terms of comfort and power (least for the 80's) and overall feels nimble because of the small body. (I daily a 533I so I would hope I know what I’m saying)

With old BMWs, I usually go by “if it’s not leaking oil, you probably need to add some” Yeah, M30s don’t make for good fuel economy. Both that I’ve had were worse than my Blazer. I still love them, and yeah, you’re right. A B35 out of an E34 is especially fun when swapped into an E28. The extra 25 or so horses make a difference

Everyone is saying wait for a 535, but I’ve owned an eta, and its a great motor for a daily driver, and you’d be paying a little more for a535.
My 733i has the in-between motor with 180 hp.
I had an eta in my 325es. They are good starting points for a boost build.
