As I bore of things on a regular basis, I find myself looking in the sub-$2000 range on Craigslist pretty often. I find that it’s a reasonable price for something that I’d drive for a few months and throw away, or turn for a minimal profit. Today I stumbled across a straight-up gem: A 1969 Cadillac Eldorado!

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

A MASSIVE 472 V8, front wheel drive, good bones to work from. He even says it runs and drives! For $650, is there anything else you could possibly ask for?

Well I could probably ask for something with less of a possibility of disintegrating if WOT is ever achieved. But Cadillacs aren’t designed for WOT, right? What do you think of this pinnacle of FWD engineering?

This is actually way less of a basketcase than anything I’ve ever picked up. The Toronado/Eldorado drivetrain is pretty bulletproof outside of high CV axle wear, too. I endorse it.

That is not remotely my bag... but at $650 it is WAY below fuck-it money and surely a weekend of scouring and a more visible sales spot could get you back your investment (possibly a few times over?)

Don’t endorse it, I’m having a hard enough time not buying it right now as it is!

I already got my wife talked into a $750 1989 Town Car; this may be an easier sell

amen.... maybe I should start browsing for stuff I DON’T like on CL so I’m less tempted to put much more than sweat equity in them and use that profit on the ones I do like...hmmmm

save $50 and buy this; 4x4, diesel, jdm.. looks like a MasterAce Surf 4WD.. with a 2C-T.. loks like the headgasket is $46 on ebay so you’ll have $4 left.

Looks like carpets retail for ~$250, full seat covers for ~$400 if it’s the same as the DeVille. So even if the interior is legendarily trashed, it’s probably just a CV job, brake job, and some other minor work plus interior away from teh classeh.

Friend of mine bought one for a grand once. It was right after I bought the Montego and I guess he felt he had to join in.

Except he had no idea what he was doing and didn’t have anywhere to store the massive thing as it doesn’t fit in most garages, despite being a 2 door.

He called me because it wouldn’t start as he was leaving the guys house he bought it from, and I came over and fixed some wiring on the spot in the guys back yard, it started up, I said good luck and left because I had somewhere to be that day.

About 40 minutes later he called me because a belt had slipped off and he was waiting on the flat bed. I saw him drive it 1 other time in the whole time he owned it. He quietly sold it about a year later when he desperately needed cash after doing nothing with it the whole time.

Damn

So the only real issue here is lack of knowledge then? ‘Cause I can deal w that

Knowledge, funds and with that guy- motivation.

He also got one that had all kinds of weird wiring from aftermarket speakers and crap someone had put on it.

I think a blank slate would be a lot easier to maintain/own.

oh - and it’s fucking huge.

I’d use a less intense word before huge, but it’s the only thing that can properly define how fucking huge that car is.

This car decidedly proved that my Montego was a mid-size. We parked it in front of my house that one time i saw him drive it over. It almost didn’t fit between my driveway and my neighbors driveway. I understand we had a skinny lot....but an F350 Super Crew Long Bed could fit and this car didn’t.

It’s fucking huge. (if I wasn’t clear)

It’s only 18.5 feet long. That’s only about 8 inches longer than my truck :)

At least it’s just a slab of fairly straight sheetmetal. From the pics it looks like it’s been sitting outside for 20 years

Thankfully rust isn’t really a thing out here :)

Yeah, I’m profoundly jealous of that. Rust is why I’m trying (and failing) to sell the Roadmaster.

To be fair, I’d be surprised if there’s anything even running for that price on my local CL, but leading off with “Needs total restoration” does not breed confidence.
