"Jake - Has Bad Luck So You Don't Have To" (murdersofa)

I’m doing things I enjoy with computers and have a comfy office in a high rise with a window. Is this what a rewarding job is? I’m confused. Where is the agony?

Cisco IP Phone, the phone of workplaces everywhere. Congrats on the new job.

That keyboard though. :O
And yes, that is what workplace bliss is...when you can come into work and not feel dreadful every minute you’re there.

I’m completely baffled as to who thought to put that there. Also, a Porsche coffee mug.

Do office life everyday for 15+ years. Eventually you’ll want to open a vein.

No lol, our corporate offices used to be below the primary business, but the business moved to a new location and most of corporate went upstairs. All except for accounting...

Accounting? Then it’s all about the bottom line, isn’t it? What better place than the basement?

An office? With a door?!?
Our company must have stock in Cubicle From Hell Corp. The only people who get offices are V.P.s or higher.

Sometimes losing a crappy job ends up being a good thing. It makes you go find a better one. Congrats on the new gig.

Enjoy it while you can. I once had a 12th floor, private, ocean-view office in that center building in the image above. My girlfriend and I even had a late night, erm, rendezvous on the helicopter pad on a breezy summer evening. Then the merger happened, followed by massive layoffs. Someone didn’t think through the significance of giving out duffel bags when inviting us to the auditorium to give us the bad news. Many of us read it as “here you go, now pack your bags and get the hell out”. I might have kept it if it didn’t have the name of my ex employer on it.
My next job, where I was making even more money, had me in a shared cubicle in the basement of a parking garage. Lots of plastic sheets up whilst they removed asbestos from the building. Um, thanks?..

We’ve got Cisco phones at my current office, both physical and virtual. I quite like them, to be honest. They certainly beat the early ‘90s crap we had at a previous job. Do you have any idea how hard it is to find drivers to have the UPS to safely shut down the voicemail system? Nobody wanted to acknowledge that such software might have been written for OS/2 Warp, nor did they have any clue where to find it. Keep in mind that we’re talking about a phone system that was still running as recently as 2010 (I left that pit of despair back in 2010). Not that we could actually do VOIP at that office since the Internet connection consisted of one third of a shared T1 line used by multiple offices. Cheap, archaic bastards...
