The hunt camp I go to have a generator with a Subaru engine. It’s just over 15 years old, has almost 1500hours on it and runs like a cherry. It will -40, and it will start right up from cold. It might take some pulls to get it turned over, but its great.

on the one hand, a [relatively] small company reducing its diversification is scary, on the other hand, it’s nice to hear they are taking this slow and keeping growth to sustainable levels.

We have a pressure washer with one of their engines. It definitely has not been maintained like recommended but it runs like a freaking top and starts without any hesitation.

Edit: I read the story, I don’t know if I missed it or what. Are they not going to even attempt to sell it?

We do change the oil in it every fall, but thats most of the maintenance it gets. It needs lots more work, but it won’t quit.

I’m thinking we’ve had ours between 3 & 5 years. The oil hasn’t been changed(should have been at least 3-4 times) and it has never had this special liquid ran through the pump before being stored for the winter. I’ll probably do a tune up this coming spring to be nice to it.

Hooray for massively understressed engines!

That’s too bad. I know a guy with a homebuilt powered by a Subaru engine. He’s been really happy with it, and parts and maintainance are a hell of a lot cheaper than on a Lycoming mill.

Had to come back today to this post to say I saw my first Subaru lawn mower yesterday.
