Might as well start putting scary faces under the hood to keep owners out.

“Yes, it’s a V8. No, you can’t see it. Fuck off. You see that badge? Says Lexus. That means check the washer fluid bottle over there, pour in some froo-froo colored water, and get the fuck out.”

when that hits the bottom the depreciation barrel, how much of that is going to be left in there you think?

Anti-tampering zip tie on the hood latch release. Warranty void if broken.

Every car weve had (all cheap) shed most of their engine bay plastics over the years. Clips break and covers crack and you just think “why bother” and chuck all of it in the bin.

They just put them on the front of the car instead.

LSs don’t really depreciate as much as their German counterparts. Where an S Class is around $3k, the Lexus will still be hovering around $10k. Generally keeps out the “I’m gonna treat this car like a stolen whore” crowd.

I used to do the piston ring recall on these eeeasy! made big time hours on these cars.

The 9LA recall was super easy as well and paid good. Did them in like 30 min.

I’d flag up to 160 hours a week at the peak of it.

I jumped my co-workers LS. I showed her how to how to pull out the Christmas trees to take off the shrouding to access the battery. While I grabbed jumper cables from my car already parked next to hers, she proceeded to remove as many of the fasteners as she could get her fingers on even if they were nowhere near the battery and drop them into the engine compartment. I think she lost three. Granted, she does support the “you’re not qualified to work on this.”

Theres a dipstick. Its the yellow thing towards the back of the silver engine cover. Checking the oil is one of the only things you can actually do without removing all the plastic.

It’s just there so dealerships can charge more for labor. “Yes, all we did was change your air fliter, but it took 30mintutes to carefully remove the covers.”

This is what society wanted. Not futuristic in the car sense, futuristic in the sense that the owner doesn’t want to do anything. No more maintenance yourself, no more driving yourself, no more being safe yourself (lane assist? lol). the normies want the cars from Minority Report.

Ironically the N54 engine bay, which I do consider to be one of the best looking of the “plastic era” of engine bay design doesn’t even have a damn dip stick and this old fogey Lexus does....

while you’re most likely right, there are a lot of similar options on my local CL for cheaps. Again, to me it just takes time and they will bottom out. In which case, they will no longer have any plastic covering the engine haha

I have a ls460 with this and went to the deal and they wanted 5 grand to fix sometimes and due regular Maintanice, I said no they ad it’s hard to work on a Lexus and the went to my independent mechanic and got everything done for 1100. It just looks that way to make people feel intimidated that it’s must be complicated and ultra modern... But don’t worry, still a Toyota at the end of day

Yo, dawg, I heard you like engine covers, so I put an engine cover under your regular engine cover (otherwise known as the hood/bonnet)
