Houston, we have cabinets. The countertops get measured tomorrow, and I have a punch walk with the production manager from the company that sold and installed the cabinets. At least one door will need to be replaced, and many of the shelves were 1/4" short and will be replaced. All free of charge, of course. The installers took three days to complete the work. I have never seen anybody work so meticulously as the two men who did the installation. Really exceptional work.

Appliances get delivered tomorrow, and the tile floor installation begins on Monday. By the end of next week, we should have appliances in place and functioning. Just no sink yet. We’re still on track for our December 1 completion date.

H/T to Oppo for helping with the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

Those look nice. Are they Kraftmaid? I just put those in my house and they are phenomenal quality for the price.

The installers were amazing. Their attention to detail, and the methodical pace at which they worked, just blew me away. I’m thrilled.

The cabinet choice was great too.

Thanks. We were going to go with IKEA. We would have saved a lot of money, but we got some super high quality cabinets instead. Also, my contractor refused to install IKEA cabinets.

I’m pretty split on IKEA cabinets, some look great, but some look like they’ll only hold up to about 15 minutes of actually being in a kitchen.

I have heard from a couple of people that IKEA cabinets simply don’t hold up in the long run. It has a lot to do with the locknut construction (or whatever you call those twisting things that lock onto a screw). These things are laminated wood (not particle board or plywood) that are nailed, screwed, dovetailed, all that. They were NOT inexpensive.

Not the greatest picture, but you get the idea. Shelves on the top, large drawers on the bottom. I will probably remove the top shelf above and use the space for large items like blenders and crockpots. Not sure where I’m going to put my cereal boxes. They need to be in a place where the kids can reach them.

Just look at how they wear in store from having herds of people play with them, some already show their age in the store. Also, I assume that your cabinets are plywood, which is a good material unlike particle board or OSB (which most people mistakenly call plywood).

Well, they are , but it’s fancy plywood.

Thanks. I’m really happy with it. Particularly because my wife and I made all the choices, not a designer. Well, the kitchen designer laid out the cabinets to maximize space and countertops, but colors, floors, etc. were are ours.

My fear is that having such a nice kitchen is going to make me want to upgrade the rest of the house, which desperately needs it. Bathrooms, carpets, new deck, the list goes on and on.

That is what happened with my mom, but we did a lot of the work ourselves. Did the kitchen/dining room, then the living room, then the master bedroom, the the front yard, then the back yard, and now she is pitching the roof (was flat), adding forced heat and air, and changing the panel siding to stucco.

That’s my fear, that it will never end. I might tackle the bathroom myself.
